Senior’s staff of Library Assistants for 1952-1953
E^ficient Library Assistants
Perform Various Duties
The Senior High library in ac
tion is quite a complex mechanism,
so let’s take a look behind the
scenes in order to uncover the in
side story.
Miss Herring, Miss Bost, and
twenty-seven library assistants com
pose the efficient staff, which
stocks the book shelves, helps stu
dents select necessary materials,
and checks books in and out, just
to mention a few things.
The Library Club is an important
feature which deserves a great deal
of credit. This organization, which
meets every Friday, discusses
problems that arise in connection
with library functions. Interesting
and informative programs pertain
ing to books share a portion of the
meeting time with a teaching per
iod. The complicated job of keep
ing the library in working ef
ficiency requires diligent effort.

ing.
Besides the approximate 7,834
books on the shelves at this time,
newspapers like The Greenshoro
Daily News, Charlotte Observer,
New York Times, and The News
And Observer may be found. Cur
rent files of clippings, pictures, col
lege catalogs and back issues of all
magazines (Reader’s Guide to Peri
odical Literature) help in the study
of many courses. Another popular
feature of the study-hall vagabonds
is the magazine rack which general
ly displays current magazines.
The bulletin boards play a big
part in the appearance and im
pression of the library for they
are up to date accounts of happen
ings, new books, or current activi
ties. Clippings, magazines, and
other materials are displayed to
best advantige in order to interest
the passer-by.

Hi gang! Since “variety is the
spice of life,” Greensbergers really
have a tasty treat in store for them
at their leading theatres. So let’s
see what’s on the fire for this week.
You might as well start getting
“dates” for those two late shows
at the Carolina this week. Saturday
night will bring Kirk Douglas in
a “honey” of a picture, “BIG SKY.”
Virginia Mayo is quite the “dish”
in the “IRON MISTRESS” which
is the Thanksgiving eve late show
Wednesday night. Sharing the act
ing honors with her will be Alan
Ladd.
Stewart Granger and Deborah
Kerr compose a heaping spoonful
of romance as they blend together
in the “PRISONER OF ZENDA”
which plays from Wednesday
through Saturday at the “showplace
of the Carolinas.”
Ray Milland arid Rita Gam “take
the cake” so the expression goes
as they are .featured in “THE
THIEF” which will be showing at
the Center Sunday through Tues
day. I know you won’t want to miss
it as there’s not one word of dia
logue throughout the entire pro
duction.
Be sure and buy yourself some
chewing gum if you enter the
National Theatre this week. “PONY
SOLDIER” will be featured, and
you’ll need something to calm your
jangled nerves as you see Tyrone
Power fight his way from start to
finish. (Adv.)
