Page BUght High Life September, 21,1956 i Greensboro Senior High Welcomes 18 New Teachers For '55-57 Year Mrs. BaiTett Mr. Bondanella Miss Craven Miss Griffin Mrs. Hillman Miss Hunter Mrs. Stanton Miss White- Sophomare Elections Scheduled For Oct. 2 Elections of Sophomore Class of ficers will be conducted Tuesday, October 2, and the nui-off will take place the following day, ac cording to James Spence, Senior Class president, who is also election chairman. The deadline for the registering of all aspirants will be Tuesday, September 25. A record number of sophomores are expected to seek an office, since the present Soph omore Class is the largest in the history of GHS. Registering will take place Monday, October 1. Sophomores seeking an office will be presented to their fellow class- men at an assembly Thursday, September 27. James reminds sophomores that only those who register will be eligible to vote. He urges that all students exercise their vote and thereby select a slate ofofficers capable of living up to Senior High standard^. Orchid Service Senior’s faculty has undergone a change for the 1956-57 school year, for approximately one-foui’th of the teachers are new to Senior. Even though the faculty has in creased in actuality by only two, there are a total of 18 new teach ers. Last year Senior welcomed only 10. In the number this year there are just three males among 15 females. t The Science Department re ceived the largest number of new" staff members with four, and the Math Department came next with three. The English and Commercial Departments both have two new teachers. There is one new teach er for each the Bible, Language,* Library, Home Economics, Music, Physical Education, and Art De partments. New Science Department teach ers are Milton Sharrer, Miss Notie Vay White of Statesville. Sam Whitely from Greensboro, and Miss Patsy Crayer from Lexington. Assigned to the English Depart ment are Miss Carolyn Hunter of Raleigh, and Mrs. Evelyn Stanton from Guilford College, and to the Commercial Department are Prank Bondanella and Miss Jean Wood. The Math Department welcomes Mrs. Helen A. Proctor, Mrs. Mar- gy Ledford, of Guilford College, and Mrs. Jeannie Parker from Greensboro. Mrs. Norma Barrett of Albe marle is the new Bible teacher; Mrs. Lucille Hillman, the Family Life instructor, Miss Alice Griffin of Williamston, art teacher, and Mrs. Eleanor Lambert is teaching Physical Education. Joining the Language Depart ment is Miss Marion Osborne of Greensboro. Mrs. Jeanne Meredith is teaching in the Music Depart ment and Mrs. Lucy Oliver is the new assistant librarian. Other officers chosen then are Marie White, vice-president; Polly Young, secretary; and Joe Math- erly, treasurer. Present members besides the officers include Valin- da Beall, Judie Bittinger, Prances Blake, Ann Darnell, Frank Den nis, Dianne Hill, Ruth Hunt, and Lee Pickard. A point system in the making wdll determine which participants of the dramatic class es are eligible for membership in Playmasters this year. Tryouts began last week for “Pride and Prejudice,’’ their first production of the year to be pre sented November 8. It is a three- act comedy adapted by Jane Ken dall from the novel by Jane Aus ten. The cast is composed of five men and 11 women.
