January 18,1957 High Life Page Five Of College Applications It’s Gree\ T o Me: Po’Soul After hearing from the seniors about all the red and black tape you must go through simply to apply for college entrance, Po’ Soul decided that even though he wouldn’t graduate for one, two, maybe three years he would get ahead and send in his applications now. You know, “Mail early and avoid tht C?hristmas rush.” Please note the word applica tions. Po’ was strongly advised against only applying to one col lege. The theory is that you may then take your pick (or shovel if you must dig for it) of the schools at which you are accepted. Po’ is not worrying now about being accepted, however. At the moment his main trouble is getting his applications completed by the deadline. There are so many little details. Try folding somethii^ 87 pages long according to the pre scribed instructions. Po’ spent one and one half hours accordion pleating one choice number last week. Three whole dollars and another two hours were spent in the “Self-Photo” booth in Wool- worth’s basement just making pic tures to “attach here.” But getting the things folded and the pictures pasted on wasn’t the hard part. That came when he had to translate the applica tions into understandable collo quialisms or as the case may be (and in fact is low-brow slang.T Here are a few of the questions which especially puzzled Po. Please send the price list.” Estimated' sources of income for freshman year, (please be frank.) “I am very sorry, but l have no desii'e to be Frank, Herman, Mel ville, or anyone else. I am content with being just po’. It would also ai.pear you are advising me to avoid the tax collector by chang ing my name.
