GHS’s faculty chose Carol Eichhom and Jerry Robertson, sen
iors; Helen Stanfield and Alfred Walke, juniors; and Diana Wel-
lons and Gary Brittenham, sophomores, as good citizens for the
first six weeks grading period of the second semester. Each home
room chooses a boy and a girl to compete for the honor. To be elig
ible one must not have a conduct grade lower than a B and no fail
ing grades. Then the teachers select a boy and a girl from each
class. The winners are recognized in assembly and given a silver
pin.

Carolyn Marks, senior at Greens
boro Senior High School, has been
appointed editor of city school
news for the GREENSBORO REC
ORD.
Carolyn is replacing Geanie
Black, junior, who edited the
news during the past semester.
The position involves collecting,
editing, typing and proofreading
news from the junior high schools
throughout the city.
The column appears in the
RECORD every week, Monday
through Friday.
Carolyn is a member of Torch
light, managing editor of HIGH
LIFE, and is on the debating team
and belongs to Quill and Scroll.

New Flag First In City
Mr. Routh has announced that
the Greensboro Senior High School
is the first school or public build
ing that has flying from its flag
pole a brand new 49 starred flag.
The flag was purchased recently
by Mr. Routh and has been flying
over the main building for the
past few days.

Carol is president of Torchlight,
GHS’s honor society, secretary of
the Civii ette Club, a member of
the choir, an office assistant and
was selected the DAR Good Citi
zen. She also makes regular honor
roll.
Jerry is president of the student
body, a Key Clubber, a member of
the choir and orchestra. He plays
the bass in the Mad Lads Band.

is in the Future Teachers of
America Club. She makes special

State Homemakers in the nation
will be awarded $4,000, $3,000,
and $2,000 scholarships, respec

A record-making number of stu
dents took part in this five-year-
old, $106,000 scholarship program.

The winners of the Citizenship
Honor Roll are recognized in as
sembly where they are given siler
pins which they for for the next
six weeks as a symbol of the Good
Citizen honor. This is one of the
fe whonors at Senior for which
almost every member of the stu
dent body is eligible.

To Art Awards Winners
Scholastic Art awards were pre
sented by Mr. A. P. Routh to Sen
ior High winners February 10 in
the assembly.
The content was entered by a
great many students from all over
the state. There were 1,000 en
trants all together. Of the 1,200
entrants that were judged, 125
were picked as gold key winners.
The television station WFMY
sponsored this contest and picked
one of the art pieces to be their
Christmas card for 1959. The win
ner of this honor was June Rubin.
June Rubin also won three gold
keys, and was picked as one of
the five state finalists to go on
to national competition.
Jennifer Stewart won a gold
key; Annette Love won a Gold
Kay and an honorable mention
for her art work; Steve Frank
won a Gold Key and so did Jo
Anne Collier. Jerry Sawers re
ceived both a Gold Key and an
Honorable mention while Kathy
Weir received a Gold Key.
