The Processional and Recession
al will be presented by the Senior
High Training Band. Following
this the queen will be crowned.
Seven dances of many different
countries will be presented. The
dances represented will be Span
ish, directed by Janet Rankin,
junior; Chinese, directed by Lu
cinda Clark, senior; South Sea
Islands, directed by Sallye Flowe;
American, directed by Lynn Fi-
field, senior; Scottish, directed by
Ann Thayer, senior; English coun
try side (May Pole dance) and a
London minuet, directed by Mrs.
Eleanor Lambert, head of the girls’
Physical Education department.
The complete program will be
narrated by George Rosental, sen
ior.

Local Key Club Chapler
Presents Nininger Award
Walton McNairy, GHS’s Key
Club president, announced last
Friday that the local Key Club
chapter will award the Interna
tional Sandy Nininger Award to
a senior during the annual awards
days program May 10.
The boy or girl who has made
the most of his capabilities will
be the recepient. The committee
which will make the final decision
will be made up of one Key
Club member, and also of other
GHS students and several faculty
members. Pete Weltner, senior,
is chairman of the selection com
mittee.
The award has attained its
name from Second Lieutenant
Alexander Ramsey “Sandy” Nin
inger, a former Key Club mem
ber. Although this man was a
polio victim in his early life, he
not only graduated from high
school with the highest scholastic
average in his class, but also had
a good record in sports and other
school activities. Those qualities
went on with him to West Point
and later overseas where, after
holding off dozens of enemy sol
diers, he was mortally wounded.
Lt. Nininger was awarded the first
Congressional Medal of Honor of
World War 11.
The person chosen for this hon
or at GHS will receive a gold
medal engraved with the likeness
and name of Lt. Nininger.

Students o( GHS Choose
Whiteside For President
Tommy Whiteside, junior, was
elected president of the Student
Council of GHS, Thursday, April
7.
The other school officers elected
were Rodolph Gibbs, junior, vice
president; Libby McComb, sopho
more, secretary; Cede Boren,
sophomore, treasurer; Jeannie An
derson, junior, youth recreation
chairman; and Rea Ferrell, junior,
traffic chief.
Janet Rankin was elected presi
dent of the rising senior class.
The junior class elected Dennis
Saunders vice president of the
rising senior class. Sue Foster
was elected secretary and Jimmy
Bullock, treasurer.
The Sophomore class elected
Sherrill Newnhm to act as the
president of their class for next
year. Lesa Hamlin was chosen
vice president; Lynne Summey,
secretary; and Jo Ann Knight,
treasurer.
The six people elected to .repre
sent the senior class next year on
the student council are Sam Gar-
ren. Dale Neese, Diana Wellons,
Jack Milton, Ann Winchester, and
Roddy Stout.

and Joan Clark. George Andreve,
who ran for youth recreation
chairman, automatically becomes a
member of the committee.
Sam Coble, Ina Jean Harris,
Brock Wellons, Ann Tate, Dick
Tontz, Cheryl Jones, Carol Rob
erts, and Carol Sheets are the
nine people elected as the student
council members for the next
year’s junior class.
The sophomore class chose Ed
White, Nancy Martin, Carol Biser,
Pete Bondanella, Betty Wilkins,
Paul Gardiner, and Jim Freedman
to represent them oh the youth
recreation committee.
It was stated by Miss Mary
Furey, student council adviser,
that only 991 of the total number
of students of GHS cast votes in
the elections. This was 57% of
the student body.
Seventy-three percent of the
sophomore class voted; seventy-
four percent of the junior X!lass;
and only forty three percent of
the senior class. There were about
a hundred people who registered
but did not vote The majority of
HIGH LIFE Staff Selects
Kiser, Pitt As Co'Editors
Suzanne Kiser and Jo Jane Pitt,
rising seniors ,were selected by
the senior members of the HIGH
LIFE staff to serve as co-editors
of the 1960-1961 paper.
Suzanne is a member of FTA,
the History Honor Society, and
is a regular member of the honor
roll. This year she served as a
HIGH LIFE reporter. Jo Jane,
besides working as a reporter on
this year’s staff, is a member of
Quiil and Scroll. Both girls plan
to continue with their journalistic
studies in college.
Kaye Riley, rising junior, will
fill the position of managing edi
tor. She is an FTA member, makes
the honor roll regularly, and was
copy editor of this year’s paper.
Next year’s co-feature editors
will be Ann Barham, rising junior,
and Caralee Pruitt, rising senior.
Both girls served as reporters on
this year’s paper.
Sports editors for next year
will be Phil Callicut and Dan
Conway, rising seniors. Boh Phil
and Dan are closely connected
with sports; Phil has been student
trainer for the peist two years, and
Dan plays tackle on the football
team. Assisting them on the sports
staff will be Bill Lewis and Frank
Patrick, rising seniors.
In charge of copyreading will
be Linda Lael, rising junior, and
Kathy Greer, rising senior. Their
assistants will be Judy Bradley,
and Dorene Parrish, rising jun
iors ,and Ann Gibson, rising sen
ior.
In the business department Jo
Anne Oliver, rising senior, will
serve as business manager, while
Allen Ashby, rising senior will be
advertising manager along with
Martha Sprinkle and Katherine
Story, rising seniors. Jo Anne’s as
sistant for 1960-61 is Sandy Fried
man, sophomore.
Diane Smither, rising junior,
will be editor of the exchange
department. ^
Next year’s reporters will be
Lynn Summey, rising jimior, Lin
da Simpson and Dan Bullen, rising
seniors.
Cartoonist for next year will be
Barbara Bell, sophomore. She was
among four girls who applied. The
others were Beverly Wilkinson,
sophomore, Susan Gardiner and
Becky Byerly, juniors.
It will be the new staff’s re
sponsibility to put out the exj
perimental issue which will be the
next issue.
