Page Six High Life March 17, 1961 Casey’s World’s Best Barbeque Fried Chicken Brunswick Stew Whizburgers Blues Bow In AAAA BY CAROLYN BUTNER “It was a good game, but we just weren’t good enough under the boards,” stated Coach Bob Jamieson after the Eagles of East Mecklenberg routed the Whirlies in the State 4-A playoff March 8. Despite Coach Bondanella’s ear lier prediction that “We ought to win this game easily,” the Whirlies dropped behind in the 4th quarter and stayed there as the Eagles began to fly a little faster than usual. At the end of the first quarter, Greensboro held a five-point lead and Whirlie fans were confident. Throughout the secoqd and third quarters the lead changed many times but not by much. The fans were kept in constant excitement as their eyes remained glued to the ball. As student trainee Harvey Gold berg pu it, “We played our hearts out, but we got the bad breaks.” “Everybody has to lose,” op timistic cheerleader Kaye Moody commented after the game. As the lights snapped out, the people straggled out, and the locker rooms became quiet, Phil Callicut spoke for the entire stu dent body of Senior when he said, “It broke my heart, it really did.” Practicing for “Little Women” are Martha McKee, Linda Perman. Twink Gaskins, Diane Lea, Margaret Farrow, and June Schaffer. On the back row are Barbara Massjel, Shirley Johnson, Jimmy Allen, Dave Lawrence, Gloria Griffin, Carol Roberts, and Sharon Dillon.
