S. library are Sara Ann Lynch, President; Brenda Younts, Vice Presi dent; Susan Scott, Secretary; Adella McKeown, Treasurer; and Stuart Brittenham, Publicity Chairman. Miss Herring heads the staff as librarian with Miss Amy Moore as assistant. The librarians select, with the looperation of the teachers and students, special materials such as pamphlets, filmstrips, and motion pictures. Not only do they order new materials but they also keep back-issues of certain magazines for students needing reference material. They experiment with new methods of teaching and different ways of using the library in its fullest capacity. These skilled work- Grimsiey Service Clubs V/elcome Soph Members Sophomores are in the process of filling vacancies in Grims iey Senior High’s twelve service clubs. Interested students met with Mr. A. P. Routh, principal of GHS, and club representatives one afternoon to learn the aims of each club and to apply for membership New members were to be accepted some time after the end of the first report period. Brs encourage extra-curricular reading by ^ving lectures and by circulating certain ma- terials throughout the classrooms. Aaided by very capable student as sistants, Miss Herring and Miss Moore kept the library in perfect order for research and browsing. Furthermore, they welcome classes to reserve the library for special refercmce work. The Library Club calls meetings whenever anyone feels the need for improved library techniques. Usually, the club will have sev eral dinner meetings, one of which will be in connection with Book Week. On the agenda for the officers is the district meeting trip, which this year, is in Mayodan at a new- ly-built school. Jaycees Sponsor Whirliebird Contest GHS’s annual “Guess-the-Whir liebird” Contest will be held No vember 1 at the Senior-High Point Game. The Junior Jaycess will announce the winner at Open House after the game and the registerel student must be present to win. The prize will be a $60 port able radio and year’s supply of batteries furnished by the Strand- berg Appliance Company. Last year’s winner was Reggie Foster. DISTRICT DE MEETING Continued from Page One room V-64. Secretaries with Presiding Offi cer, Lauondia Clary, and Discus sion leader, Mrs. Mary Thompson, D.E. Coordinator of Northeast- Guilford High School, met in room V-65. Treasurers met in room V- 63 with Presiding Officer Frances Perkins, and Discussion Leader, Mr. J. Leroy Dawson, D.E. Coordi nator from Southeast-Guilford High School. Publicity Committees met in room V-60 with Presiding officer Jerry Carpenter and Dis cussion Leader Mr. Homer Haid- ing, of Ragsdale High School. Parliamentarians met in room V-66 with Presiding officer, Norris Clay and Discussion Leader, Mrs. Charlotte Jennings, Guidance Counselor at GHS. Afterwards a “Get Acquainted Hour” was held during which refreshments were served. Mr. Routh said that no sophomore clubs would be or ganized, but about ten or twelve tenth-graders would be admitted to each of the seven girls’ and five boys’ clubs already existent. He further stated that a balance of seniors, juniors, and sophomores in each club was de> sirable. The existing girls' clubs are the Charioteers the Junior Civinettes, the Junior Exchangettes, the Jun ior Jaycettes, the O. Henry Jun iors, the eniorettes, and the Sub- Junior Woman’s Club. The boys’ clubs are Interact, the Junior Civi- tans, the Junior Exchange Club, the Junior Jaycees, and the Key Club. Grimsley’s service clubs partici pate in many worthwhile activi ties throughout the year.. Each is allowed only one money raising project per year. Profits are con tributed to charity and may not be used for social activities. The new officers of the GHS Library Club are Susan Scott, secretary, Stuart Brittenham, publicity chairman, Sara Ann Lynch, president, Adella McKeown, treasurer. 1116 SUBSCRIPTIONS OBTAINED; BALLANCE OBTAINS 100 PERCENT Mr. Ballance’s third period English class, Room 300, ob tained a one-hundred percent subscription to HIGH LIFE. The annual subscripton drive, carried through one full week, brought in 1116 subscriptions altogether, which was 84 less than 75% of the total G. H. S. enrollment that the staff had counted on. During the drive, a poster was placed in the main hall telling how many subscriptions wesA turned in per homeroom each day of the campaign. Members of the HIGH LIFE staff visited each homeroom each morning to give out pledge cards to new subscrihers.
