Page Eight High Life November 8, 1963 Grimsiey High Symphony Band Presents Premier Performance On Wednesday evening, November 6, at 7:30, the Grimsiey Senior High Symphony Band presented its premier performance in the G.H.S. school auditorium. The height of tht per formance was the appearance of the hand’s noted guest conductor, Serge de Gastyne. Mr. de Gastyne conducted his own composition, “Overture on American Themes.” Another exciting phase of the performance was a flute choir solo in the piece, “Flutation,” written by Clara Grundman. There were several other solos to complement the program. On the hst of numbers to be played were three marches which Mr. Herbert Hazelman, the Grimsiey High Band conductor, brought from Europe. “Fleurig Blut,” a Swiss number written by Hans Heusser, Kobenhau- Six Members Chosen For Citizenship) Honor Roll Six students have been selected as members of Grims iey Senior High’s Citizenship Honor RoU for the first six weeks of school. Outstanding students thus honored are sen iors Ann Jamieson and Keith Gulledge, juniors Dave Grimes and Mary Jane Kellett, and sophomores Tom Booth and Mar garet Transou. At the end of every report period, the students in each home room nominate one girl and one boy from the room as their best citizens. The list of Program Listings For Next Two Weeks WFMY-TV, channel 2 in Greens boro, will present several interest ing and educational programs dur ing the next two weeks. Sunday, 20th Century will pre sent ‘‘The Road to Berlin,” an informative program examining the causes for the continuing crisis over divided Berlin. The program wll begin at 6 p.m. and will last for one half hour. On Wednesday “A Season of War” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. This program intends to show the story of the Civil War. November 29 features a one hour presentation of the New York Philharmonic Young People’s Con cert, Leonard Bernstein conduct ing. Starting time will be 7:30. home room nominees is sub mitted to the faculty to elect one boy and one girl from each class. No student may be elected more than once in a school year. Requirements for Citizenship Honor Roll are very strict. The nominee must have a “B—” or better in deportment, must be passing at least three subjects, in cluding one major, and must ren der some service to his school or community. Citizenship Honor Roll is spon sored by the Student Council un der the guidance of Miss Lottie Burnside. Hoochinoo is a distlled liquor made by the Alaskan Indians. ner, a Danish piece written by Axel Frederksen, and “Chicla- nera,” a Spanish tune written by Oropesa Y. Carmona. Next, the band played “Three Sketches”—“La Misa,” “Chiquita,” and “La Processional” written by L. Weine, who wrote another com position for band and choir which will be played later on here at Grimsiey. Premier An even more important event was the premier of Mr. Hazelman’s arrangement of “Overture and Scene” from “Swan Lake,” writ ten by Tschaikowsky. Following this, the Symphony Band performed “Dawn Breaks At a Shinto Shrine,” written by a well known Japanese composer, Urato. Watanable, and “Moorside March” from Moorside Suite, writ ten by Gustav Holst. Open To Public The performance, which con tinued for one and one half hours, was open to the public. Anyone wishing to attend was to buy a ticket from one of the band mem bers. The tickets were sold in or der to raise money for each mem ber to go to the World’s Fair in 1964. There, the band will play a concert on July 4th. The Symphony Band rehearses for the concert presented November 6. Industry-Education Events To Be Held November 13 GHS teachers will participate in the Fourteenth Industry- Education events sponsored by the Piedmont Associated In- dustrits. This event is considered one of the biggest on the calendar during the year and is always held in connection with American Edrcaton Week. Durng the morning of November 13, the association mem bers will visit in the classrooms from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00, noon, ending with lunch in the ni lAllc iwEnirE school cafeteria. rLAUliL AVeRAUl Industry tours will be con ducted on Wednesday after- 1963-1964 First Six Weeks no.on at 3:00 p.m. for all teachers Seniors: new to the Greensboro and Guil ford County School systems. The Annual Industry-Education meeting will be held during the evening at the Greensboro Audi- torium.
