Plans For Graduation Made Final Plans for graduation, including parties, receptions, and reminis cing climaxed with the solemn ceremony symbolizing the com pletion of high school, have been completed with the final an nouncement of dates. FACULTY TEA The beginning of the end is scheduled for May 19 at the Faculty Tea. The Seniors will gather at the Alumnae House of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro for this affair. Cla?s Day, with the annual pageant followed by a swimming party at Lindley Park Pool, will be May 28. Climaxing Class Day is the Prom which will begin at 8:30 in the boys’ gym. VESPERS SERVICE Speaking at the Vespers Serv ice, on May 30 is the Reverend Joe Garrison, minister at the Presbyterian Church of the Cove nant, serving since 1945 as its pastor. Active in many civic organiza tions, including the Greensboro Council o-n Alcoholism, Reverend Garrison has authored two books entitled Heads Up for College and Undei^tanding Books of the New Testament, “The Gospels.” Before coming to Greensboro, Reverend Garrison was the Pres byterian University Pastor at the University of Missouri and pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, Missouri. He was also named the Director of Stu dent Work for the General As sembly of the Pl*esbyterian Church and has served as an exchange pastor with the Queen’s Cross Church in Aberdeen, Scot land. GRADUATION A North Carolina native, Rev erend Robert L. Moore, will de liver the address for graduation. Reverend Moore is the present Minister of Youth at the West Market Street Methodist Church where he is responsible for Jun ior High Senior High and Col lege youth. While at Duke University, where he studied classical Greek, Rev erend Moore was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Eta Sigma Phi, a national honorary fraternity for outstanding scholarship in the study of languages. Reverend Moore acts as Chap lain of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of which he is a member and advises the Grims- ley Senior High Huddle Group of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. It swept over the city enabling teen agers to hold city council positions, honor “Youths of the Day”, and stage their own carnival. Kicking off Youth Week, a banquet was held on Saturday, April 24. Mayor David Schenck presented Grhnsley’s Dick Levy, Y.C.C.A. chariman, with the key to the city. Thursday, April 29, marked the mock city council meeting held in the Council Chamber of Municipal Building. Included on the slate of councilmen were Grimsley’s Eddie Farthing as city manager; Stuart George, parks and recreation planning; Anne Brown, police chief; and Tim Frye, citizen at large. WCOG, were Whirlies Ann Hobbs, Among the resolutions passed by the junior city council was the unanimously accepted “Jo- Anne Taylor Day” honoring the YCCA advisor on Saturday May 1. Miss Taylor was presented with an engraved plaque. Thursday was also proclaimed Merchant Day and among the winners of the many drawings which were broadcasted over who won a $10 gift certificate from Jewell Box; Ellen Coble, who won a $10 gift certificate from Montaldo’s; and Kit Abbitt, who received a pair of shoes from Arthur’s. At a banquet held in Char lotte, Cindy was presented a $50 check for the second place and Don Howard received $25 for taking third place. Moore Board of Editors To Head 1966 Whirligig Production No sooner are the last pages of a yearbook sent to be printed, when the first pages of the next yearbook are penciled in on the layout sheets by a new, enthusiastic staff. So is the case for the GHS WHIRLIGIG. The 1966 Board of Editors, as named by Miss Virginia Pow ell, advisor, will consist of Janine Webster, Managing Editor; Susan Lashley, Literary Editor; Kathy Hutton, Layout Editor; Jean MacFarland, Art Editor; and Joyce Robinson, Business Manager. Assisting the Board in the pro- Six Whirlies Chosen For Governor’s School Grimsley High School once again showed it was Greensboro’s number one school, as six Whirl ies were among the thirteen stu dents chosen for the 1965 Gov ernor’s School. Page offered five candidates and Smith two. Delegates from GHS are Mi chelle Hoyman, dance; Ellen Kay, Drama; Charleen Pyron, Orches tra; Sue Swart, Orchestra; Cyn thia Speas, History; and Hardin Matthews, Biology. Grimsley was honored in hav ing five students selected, for only 387 out of 3,000 applicants are finalists. The 1965 session begins June 12 and ends August 1.
