Vocational Education Clubs
Have Officer Training Workshop

Grimsley’s vocational education
clubs (DE, ITC, VICA) were host
to club officers from Alamance,
Rockingham, and Guilford Coun
ties for an Officers’ Training
Workshop, Wednesday, October
11.
Acquainting the officers with
the exact duties and responsi
bilities of their offices and sug
gesting how they might carry
them out was the main purpose
of the workshop.
Group meetings occurred for
each office for discussion. Discus
sions were led by D. E. Coordi
nators and student council of
ficers. Representatives of HIGH
LIFE attended the publicity meet
ing.
Speakers at the opening as
sembly of the meeting were the
Honorable Carson Bain, mayor of
Greensboro, who spoke on “What
Is Leadership?” and former DE
instructor Mrs. Virginia Heard,
who discussed “Effective Leader
ship.”
A film, “Parliamentary Pro
cedure in Action,” showed the cor
rect way to conduct meetings.

Subscription Drive
Approximately 71 percent of
Grimsley’s student body are sub
scribers of HIGH LIFE for the
1967-1968 school year.
HIGH LIIFE which is in its 44
year of publication, is the only*
high school newspaper in the
state to be published weekly
and is one of few in the country.
This is the third year in which
the paper has been distributed
weekly. Subscription rates are ,$1
per semester.
The dates designated for the
collection of the subscription
money are Wednesday, November
15, and Monday, March 18. The
money will be collected in home
room.
Any subscriber not receiving
his HIGH LIFE should go to
room 410. If a complaint is not
made, the subscriber will be re
sponsible . for paying ..the _full
amount.
Students who have not had the
opportunity to sign a subscrip
tion card but would like to do so
may come to room 410.

Mayor Bain, in his speech,
gave an unusual definition of
leadership. “If you know why you
get up every morning,” he stated,
“you’re a leader. A lack of under
standing (of leaders and be
tween leaders and their followers)
is part of our problem today. We
need more horizontal, man-to-man
communication; if we had it we
could virtually eliminate prob
lems here in Greensboro.”
The DE diamond, symbol of the
club, was the subject of Mrs.
Heard’s talk. “Every single person
in DECA must have a goal,”
Mrs. Heard said, “and hiust touch
every ‘base’ of the diamond.” The
