VanSant Resigns Post
Coach Henry VanSant
‘Close-Up’ Program
After leading Grimsley to
two Division 7 titles in
football, head coach Henry
VanSant left his coaching
and teaching position on
April 10 for a coaching post
in Harrisburg, Virginia.
Mr. VanSant left for
James Madison University to
become the new offensive
football coach. “The people
here in Greensboro have
been really great to me, and
my three years, here have
been very satisfying. But
this was a chance t&get back
into college coaching, and
that is really where I wanted
to be,” commented VanSant
before his departure.
VanSant summed up his
experiences at Grimsley by
saying, “Relating and inter
acting with students in the
classroom environment has
been pleasmable and satis
fying. In coaching, the play
during the past two years
winning the Division cham
pionship has been most re
warding.”
Prior to coming to Grims
ley in 1976, VanSant held
several other successful coa
ching jobs in the collegiate
and high school ranks. He
coached at East Carolina for
eight years and spent one
year at Guilford College. He
also directed Laurinburg
Scotland High School and
Fayetteville Seventy-first.
With the exception of two
teams, all of VanSant’s foot
ball teams have earned play
off berths.
VanSant was very grateful
to the students of Grimsley
for their support. He said,
“The students are super. I
am most appreciative of their
support during the past
three years. I would like to
give special thanks to the
Pep Board Chairpersons for
their work, enthusiasm, and
