Election speeches were given in the auditorium on May 27 to the members of the junior class. One of the most outstanding speeches was given by Stan McAdoo. McAdoo promised ‘ ‘to repre sent the talented and im- talented, the smart and not- smart. ’ ’ His presentation moved the audience when, at the end of his speech, he proclEiimed, “I hope to make Grimsley Senior High the number one school in the United States of America.” Next year the five member senior coimcil will elect eimong themselves a presi dent, Student Affeiirs chair man, YRC chairman. Inder maur took second place, missing first place in the regionals by one problem. The forty-problem State Mathematics Test covered the secondary range of math including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and analysis. Mr. Saunders feels that Indermaur is ‘‘one of the finest students in mathema tics that one could ever hope to encounter.” Rizk Wins Award, Claims $25 Prize Each year the O’Henry Study Club awards a $25 prixe for the best short story written by a Grimsley senior. This award is unique to Grimsley, and was won this year by Mysoon Rizk. Mysoon’s story, entitled ‘‘The Bird,” , appears in the latest edition of FULL FLIGHT, Grimsley’s literary magazine. Congratulations, Mysoon, and keep up the good work! ‘Response Poor’ Opinion Caring Teachers Make Learning Rewarding To the Editor: This letter is written in the aftermath of the last two weeks here at Grimsley. In the last issue of High Life, excellent coverage was given to the Playmasters produc tion of Harvey. Our heartfelt thanks go out to the staff for their support and spirit of this exciting (to us) event. Our concern, however, is ;he response to that event. iTery few (under 25) students iiere saw Harvey. Yet over 200, by conservative esti mates, saw the Page produc tion of Jesus Christ Super- star. Whole school groups were seen at Superstar, while none saw Harvey. We in Playmasters find that disturbing, distressing and disappointing. The members of Playmasters work hard to produce shows, and support is the only thing asked in return. For drama to con tinue at Grimsley, we need you - the students body to help us with your support. Playmasters by Joe Morris It has often been said that hindsight gives twenty- twenty vision. With a retro spective view of our years at Grimsley,^we now can focus more distinctly on -the ele ments of our lives at school which have shaped our cha racters and enhanced our wisdom, as well as those that have wasted our time. In my three years here, there have been two subjects which have consistently pro vided knowledge, humor, stimulation, and satisfaction. French, under the guid ance of Mrs. Ann Oakley, has been one of these enligh tening courses. Mrs. Oak ley’s classes have an amiable atmosphere which generate responsibility and a desire to learn. Through discussions which are almost entirely in French, her students are instilled with a thorough knowledge and appreciation of language, culture, and history. And while emphasi zing the importance and relevance of her subject. Mrs. Oakley maintains the rare quality of understand ing that students are in volved with other studies and activities. Math with Mr. Larry Saimders has also been of great value. The dedication anfi'-concem with which he teaches is'Teflected^ ' diligent performance of his students. Mr. Saunders demands alertness in class: those who persever are the ‘ ‘cream of the crop’ ’ of math students. I would like to express my thanks to Mrs. Oakley and Mr. Saunders for all that I have learned from them. Such caring teachers make education a rewarding expe rience.
