seniors in
Greensboro’s four city high
schools who had not taken or
passed North Carolina’s
Competency Test received
their opportunity on October
11 and 12.
The purpose of the Com
petency Test is to determine
if the students have achieved
certain basic skills in high
school. In order for a student
to receive a diploma, he
must pass the Competency
Test.
The test was brought
about by the North Carolina
General Assembly as a re
sponse to the national con
cern over the value of a high
school diploma. The test was
designed by the Competency
Test Commission to accur
ately measure basic skills
and be fair to all students.
