The rain did not dampen the fun, as many Whirlies danced to the music of Spirit on the night of Saturday, May 17. The decorations and formal dress added to the excitement of the evening. [Continued on page 16] The results of the election for 1980-87 were announced on Tuesday, May 20. Win ners were Sherri Phillips, Keith Cooper, Catherine Evans, Amy Anderson, Katy Clapp, and Julie Hollander in student body/chairmen positions. Senior class offi cers are Glenn Gorham, Susan Raboldd, Karen En right, and Cara Abernathy. Junior class officers are De von Spaulding, SheUy Bar ker, Becky Sillmon, and Els wick Smith. A new system of student government was initiated* this year at Grimsley, chang ing the previous election process. In the new system, stu dents must run for specific positions, whereas in the past they ran for council and then decided on positions. Several students ran uncon tested this year due to the new system. Elections were held on May 8 after assembly speeches on the previous day. Candidates for Junior Class President were Lynn Leonard, Devon Spaulding, and Ronald SpruiU. Shelly Barker, LaTonya Kirkpatrick and Star Young ran for YRC representative. Becky SiU- mon ran uncontested for Pep Senior Calendar May 27, 28 Exams for seniors during regular class period. This js a regular school day and seniors are required to at tend all classes. May 29 Make-up exam for seniors during regular class period. This will be the last full day of classes for seniors only. May 30 Senior Awards Day - School Auditorium, 9:00 am - 10:30 am. Cap and gown are required. Seniors will be excused fi-om school at the conclusion of the program. June 3 Graduation Practice, 9:30 am, Greensboro Coliseiun,. (Wear school clothes.) SSBAG members should meet on a more organized basis at the home schools. SSBAG meetings should be lengthened to three hours (9:00 am - 12:00 noon). SSBAG representation at School Board meetings is to be mandatory. Finally, SSBAG was found to be a profitable and benefi cial process for this school district. Torchlight and Quill and Scroll, the two national honor society groups for high school students, have recent ly held inductions at Grims ley. Torchlight is a national honor society organization, honoring academic acheive- ments, character, leader ship, and service. On Tues day, April 29, twenty-eight new members were inducted into this honor society. These new inductees are: juniors, Jennifer Black, Stacy Block, Elizabeth Bos- chen, Lillian Caldwell, Lynn Carter, Amy Coles, Debra Coles, Amy Derrick, Bill Eggleston, Craig Fleishman, Laura Hassell, Peter Hilde- brandt, Tonya Horton, San dra Kates, Tina Pardue, By Cameron Reece Kristen Schoolfield, Sandra Tony Turner; Smith, and seniors, Stephanie Bartis, Roy Holler, Denise Long, Mark Tedder, Paul Vroo- man and Carl Winfield. Quill and Scroll, also a national honor society, re cognizes outstanding stu dent journalists. Inductions were held Wednesday, May 14. This year’s inductees are from all three publications staffs: from High Life (newspaper), Carole Dolin, Jennifer Enright, Mark Langston, Jim Kobos, and Karen Brown; from Whir ligig (yearbook), Cynthia Carter; and from In FuU Flight (literary magazine), Cara Abernathy.
