Unveilea before he first football game, this baby cost $500 and 8 weeks of worry for Nancy ;)ashion. Student Council Pep Board Chairman who was in charge of the new )ird. The costume was designed by Cashion and Ms. Nancy Johnson, employee of Eastern Costume Design from whom the costume was ordered. The design was created from a combina- ion of the first Whirliebird and the old costume. The one major difference bet ween the new costume and the old one is the absence of leg coverings, making this years costume cooler and more comfortable. Eventually, the new Whirliebird will be paid for by the junior class. With a loan from Student Council, the junior class will raise money by selling candy and cookies. The Whirliebird’s identity is never revealed, and it never speaks. If in terested in being the Whirlie mascot, contact Nancy Cashion. by Brian Gay In following fall sports, one will have plenty of chances to see the new signs in Jamieson Stadium. The idea for the signs came about when the stadium became ex clusively Grimsley’s. The idea for the project was conceived and organized by last years junior class officers. The money to pay for the signs was raised from the suc cessful “McBuck” sales last year. The cost of the finished product was $590.00. Bill Kirkman, owner of Kirkman signs, was chosen to do the work. The signs were put on the press boxes on both sides of the stadium. On one side “Go Whirlies” is boldly printed and on the other “Welcome to Jamieson Stadium, Home of the Whirlies,” A Whirl wind is pictured with the latter message on the home side of the stadium. A contest, won by Keith Davis, was held to originate the symbols now di^layed. The project was begun and completed in the sum mer. As planned, the pain tings were finished prior to the East-West AlLStar Game.
