Slight controversy over the new disciplin ary forms exists. While some parents and staff members believe that socioeconomic statistics have affected the number of out-of-school sus pensions assigned, the administration disagrees. “The new forms were adopted as checklists and for clerical purposes. Disturbing statistics have not at [changed ways of discipline],’’ said Assistant Principal Marty Woody. The new discipline form includes punish ments such as Sunday detentions, weekday lunch detentions, and even home visits. “I think other alternatives are good ideas, especially Sunday detention because it [takes up] the student’s weekend,” said senior Danielle Tate. Despite the variety of consequences offered, some students and teachers doubt these changes will improve classroom behavior or reduce bullying. “This form is just at Grimsley, modeled after a generic county form. It won’t improve disci pline [in the classroom] at all,” said Woody in the disciplinary form’s defense. Proactive measures such as student or staff intervention are the only ways to improve stu dent behavior and to reduce the number of dis ciplinary problems, according to an anti-bully- ing organization called ESR. .1 Western Boots starting at around $65 Purgason’s Leather Highway 220 N in Summerfield 643-5353 Bring a copy of this ad and receive 10% off one pair of boots.
