2 reflections May 18,2011 To the Class of 2011 from Your Student Body President n Ml Mi My name is Ali Ali, and I am the Student Body President. Having attended Grimsley all four years of my high school ca reer, I have enjoyed the mo ments spent with my class mates. Throughout this time, our class has had much fun to gether. From being the craziest student section at basketball and football games to spend ing time with each other dur ing and after dances, we cer tainly knew how to have a good time together. The Class of 2011 has sur vived many evenfs, such as AP/ IB exams, EOCs, and bench mark tests. We also had to drum up the courage to ask dates for dances, encourage others to join clubs and attend sports events, and endure a lack of sleep due to hours and hours of homework. Now, we finally approach our graduation. We remember walking on campus as nervous freshmen and now find our selves leaving as confident graduates. Our class has been through a challenging but ex citing four years, which will benefit us for the tough roads that lie ahead. Always the worst is the first day of school as freshmen. We never knew what to expect, and most of us, as freshmen, were too nervous to introduce our selves. Our freshman class ad justed quickly by interacting with our peers and becoming close friends. Freshman year was a wild way to kick off high school. Affer the assembly on the very first day with Coach Joe Franks, all of us who at tended understood the history and tradition associated with Crimsley High School. Sophomore year involved the most change we had ever experienced in a single year of school. We met new principal Anna Brady, many experienced their first AP classes, and a majority of students acquired their drivers' licenses. Friend ships grew closer, and together we learned that we would re ceive from high school as much as we put into it; therefore, we started to work harder to main tain good grades. For most students, junior year was the toughest aca demically because that was when the reality of attending college became a serious mat ter. SAT scores were crucial, and many of us took college visits. Considering the aca demic rigor of IB and AP, I cer tainly admire the work ethic of those students who exceeded the typical work load of other students to earn college cred its, especially completing four years, sometimes six years of a foreign language. "BLUE WHITE, YOU KNOW! BLUE WHITE, YOU KNOW!" is the popular chant that the proud students in the senior section would yell at football and basketball games. No matter where the games took place, we were willing to carpool and travel the dis tance just to support our ath letes. Our unity is what stands out about our senior class; we have become a family. Even fhough we all mighf nof be headed in fhe same direction after high school, we all have each other's best interests at heart. I couldn't have asked for a better group of classmates with whom to spend four years of my life. I hope to re main in touch with as many people in our class as I can be cause I will miss all the great memories and fun we have had together. I want to thank everyone for having the confi dence in me to represent our class as Student Body President. I wish all of you the best in life! Sincerely, Ali Ali To My Fellow Seniors from Your Class President .-I -m!" QaBy Scott I cannot believe we are nearly at the end of our high school experience. Although I am ready to graduate and con tinue with the next step in my life, as I am sure all of you are as well, I am also quite sad to be saying goodbye to Crimsley. We have spent so much of the last four years of our lives walking on this beautiful cam pus, frying to find just the right shortcuts so we could make it to classes in just six minutes. It is at this school that we have met some of our best friends and sfrong influences. We all have had very unique and per sonal experiences as Whirlies, and the memories we have made will stay with us forever. As seniors, we have experi enced numerous events that united us as a proud class. We attended eight Crimsley-Page basketball games and four fierce Crimsley-Page football games. Wed also enjoyed four fun and colorful Crimsley-Page Spirit Weeks that included four very hot bonfires, and four Senior Theme Nights to cheer on our football team. We cannot for get the wonderful time we had at four Homecoming dances, four TWIRP dances, and two proins, as well as four winter and spring breaks. Still other events included two Whirlie Walks, afire in the cafeteria building extinguished by one of our own. one triple-overtime lacrosse victory against West ern, the stealing of a pirate head, and the introduction of a new Whirlie mascot. Whirlie Wednesdays provided a weekly catch-up on sleep, though it was no cure for Senioritis, and three too many snow days that cut into Spring Break.. As our time as Whirlies grew shorter each day, we still had popular activi ties to share, such as our Mr. Whirlie pageant. Senior Tea, Senior Awards Day, Project Graduation and, most impor tantly, GRADUATION. As our futures draw us into college, the workplace, or the military, it is only natu ral that we begin thinking about our lives from a greater perspective. Many of us will be leaving our homes for fhe firsf time in just a few months, and all of us are in the process of making huge decisions that will have major effects on our lives. These changes are both stressful and exciting, but when you think back, it was not so long ago when we were experiencing the same anxiety and uncertainty of our firsf days as freshmen. Transitioning into a new en vironment is difficult no mat ter your age or the setting, but since we seniors did it so well once before, I am confident that this time will be no different. I know that wherever our different paths take us, we will be successful because our class is fruly one comprised of leaders. The actions of the Class of 2011 have made an impact on the underclassmen as well as the larger commu nity that supports us and the inspiring teachers who have educated us. We are a class of scholars, afhlefes, artists, musicians, clowns, and pro viders. I have learned so much from knowing you all as classmates and friends during my time at Grimsley, so it is important as we go our separate ways that we re member all the friendships developed and lessons learned throughouf fhese four years. I am also thankful to the amazing teachers who have served as mentors and guides to our class through out our stay. You have influ enced us in so many unique and wonderful ways; we will always treasure the counsel ing you have offered us. Grimsley High School is known for ifs traditions, and I am proud to say that our class has most definitely car ried on the Tradition of Excel lence that others have come to expect of us as Whirlies. "ONE, ONE, YEAH, SON!" Sincerely, Gaby Scott
