East Wind ~ 7
Robin Munesato,
Co-president of AACD
With the growing Asian
American population on the
UNC Chapel Hill campus, it is
time for UNC to take the
initiative to foster Asian
American dialogue within the
campus community and
beyond. Back in 1994 two
individuals founded the Asian
American Resource Center
with a vision for unifying all
Asian Americans on campus.
This vision was rekindled in
1998 with the establishment of
the Asian and Asian American
Center for Development
(AACD). AACD has since
focused on implementing
academic and resource-
focused programs at UNC.
AACD is inclusive of all
regions of Asia, including
South
Asia, Southeast Asia, East
Asia, and the Pacific Islands.
Our main mission is to bridge
the gap between the
predominantly Asian cultural
organizations at UNC by
providing an educational and
intellectual center of Asian
and Asian American issues.
We strive to work closely with
these organizations to
promote unity, awareness,
and activism on Asian and
Asian American issues
amongst students of Asian
descent and with people of all
races.
AACD serves to provide a
venue for Asians and non-
Asians to educate themselves
about social, economic, and
political issues concerning
Asian and Asian-American
history, identity, and heritage.
AACD serves to promote
unity, awareness, and activism
amongst students of Asian
descent and people of all
races.
