A mouthful of marshmallows. Poison ivy rashes on my friend’s leg. Dat Phan’s jokes about
his mother. Christmas presents for a needy family. I have so many fond memories already
of the UNC Asian Students Association this year, and there is still so much to look forward
to. We have continued old traditions, such as our cultural show, “Journey into Asia,” and started
new traditions, such as the student body president forum we held in February. No matter what we
were doing, though, we always kept the mission of our organization in mind: to educate ASA
members and the University community about Asian/Asian-American cultures, to facilitate social
interaction among Asian/Asian-American students from not only Chapel Hill but from all over the
Triangle, and to contribute to the community through public service. By these standards, it has
been quite a successful year so far for ASA. However, we should not simply sit back and be satis
fied with what we have. ASA has a great deal of room for improvement, and only with the support
of all Asian students and Asian organizations on campus will ASA truly reach its potential.
