ASIAN STUDENTS ASSOCIAHON soc “ w . * I By : choline ASA Beach Trip: Garden City Beach ~ Out for a walk on the beach' T he Asian Students Association of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH ASA) plays an integral role in helping its members, other students, and the university as a whole better understand the Asian American’s role as part of the American culture. This task is accomplished through various methods, but the social events ASA coordinates allows its members and all other students to have an opportunity where they can successfully interact. These social gatherings are planned in the spirit of entertainment, friendship, and unity. Ultimately, they serve as an opportunity for all people interested to further their understanding of the Asian American culture and identity. This year, ASA has planned a wide variety of social events in hopes of increasing the amount of relations among its members and within the university. As tradition, ASA has planned a picnic to start out the Fall semester. This picnic serves as a great way for freshmen, who are new to UNC, to meet the upperclassmen. This year, the picnic was held in the Multi-purpose room of the New Student Union. We had lots of food and snacks and many fun games! It is always a perfect way to kick-start a great year. Clubbing events, mixers, and after-parties have always played a vital role in the social component of ASA. This year, we have had many clubbing parties at Avalon, a club on Rosemary Street. We also held a big after-party following our annual cultural show called Journey into Asia at Element. It was the largest mixer of the year and attracted many students from all over the Triangle. Earlier in the year, UNC-CH’s ASA along with Duke and NC State’s ASA held a Triangle Mixer at George’s Garage in Durham. These fun mixers provide a fun atmosphere filled with music and dancing for students to mingle.
