With the growing number of Asian
residents and Asian students in the
triangle area, Asian awareness is a
main concern of Pi Alpha Phi. The
focus for this year according to cul
tural chair Greg Chang is to devel
op bonds of cooperation and unity
between the Asian organizations of
UNC. “Unity among the Asian
groups is the first step in dealing
with the issues,” Chang said.
Chang organized an Asian-wide
potluck lunch, inviting all the Asian
organizations on campus to attend.
Members from ASA, VSA, KASA,
CUSA, Kamikazi, and alpha Kappa
Delta Phi contributed with food and
attendance. After the lunch, mem
bers from all the groups enjoyed
participating in “ice-breaker”
events.

Academic excellence is fundamen
tal in Pi Alpha Phi life. Academic
chair Leo Cao recently implement
ed a plan that includes mandatory
study hours and “study buddies”.
Members pose at the Pi Alpha Phi Installs at Spice Street.
“Study buddies” is the pairing of
one brother to another which allows
the paired bros to remind and keep
each other on track. Personal meet
ings with the academic chair are
also required monthly.
Although demanding, the plan
hopes to prepare the brothers of the
fraternity for their careers. “The
goal is to prepare us for challenges
beyond higher education and main
tain excellence in college academ
ics... contrary to the stereotypes of
Greek organizations we strive for
academic excellence in order to
show who we are through what we
do,” Cao said.
Pi Alpha Phi brothers work hard but
also play hard. Several socials
and mixers were held in conjunc

fall and spring semester. As a new
