AC Phoenix, September 1989, Page 9 Psi Phi Chapter awards College scholarships Two scholarships to taling $1,750 have been awarded by Psi Phi Chapter, the local chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. The 1989 recipients of the schol arships are Asim Razzak and Charles Parrott. Both young men will enter college as fresh men this fall. The scholarship win ners were guests of the local fraternity at the chapter's August meeting. Each young man had the opportu nity to make an im promptu presentation in the presence of the chapter's membership. The brotherhood posed questions aimed at helping each applicant project his strengths. Both Razzak and Par rott spoke of their high school careers, and each indicated his edu cational and career plans for the future. Each young man pre sented a profile consis tent with the principles of the fraternity: man hood, scholarship, per severance, and uplift. Razzak, who is a graduate of Glenn High School, will attend North Carolina A and T State University this fall where he will study electrical engineering. While at Glenn, he was active in school athletics, lan guage clubs and the martial arts. According to one reference source, however, Asim is moti vated by the challenges he finds in the class- According to his En glish teacher, "Asim has a genuine desire for learning." She further described him as an in dividual whose natural ability was coupled with a seriousness of pur pose. Parrott, who gradu ated from Carver High School this spring will attend Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee this fall. He will transfer to Tennessee State University at the conclusion of his core curriculum at Lane. Par rott aspires to become a computer engineer. The academic achievements noted for Parrott included his membership in the Na tional Honor Society, junior marshall, and honor graduate status. During his senior year all but one of his classes carried fhe course weight of "honors: or "academically demand ing." The scholarship applications submitted by Razzak and Parrott were endorsed by James Franklin and Vic tor Johnson respec tively. Franklin and Johnson are members of Psi Phi Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Frater nity. Joe Lowery is the chairman of the chap ter's scholarship com mittee. Robert McCol lum is chapter basileus.
