NANNIE MAE AND THOMAS LEONARD PINNK, SR MEMORIAL BANQUET AND FAMILY GATHERING Reidsv ille-- The descendants of Thomas Leonard and Nannie Mae Pinnix, Sr. held a Memorial Banquet and Family Gathering at the Holiday Inn in Reidsville, NC during the 4th of July weekend. The memorial service honored the long and meaningful Christian lives of Thomas and Nannie. Thomas lived from 1895-1989 and Nannie 1903-1973. They were married in 1919 and celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 1969. From this union fourteen children were bom, twelve of whom have lived to adulthood and carried on the tradition of family. They are Mattie Pinnix Wiley (deceased). Van Pinnix (deceased), Melba Pinnix Summers, Jesse Pinnix Willliamson, Nannie Pinnix Jones, Okie Pinnix Williamson, Thomas L. Pinnix Jr., Raymond Pinnix, Norman Pinnix (deceased), Robert T. Pinnix, Alima Pinnix Lee, Percy Pinnix (deceased), Carol Pinnix Motley, and Barbara Pinnix Graves. Thomas and Nannie have fifty- three grand children, sixty- nine great grand children and four great great grand children. There were one hundred and twenty- five descendants attending, who came from the states of 50th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Church, where a grandson Rev thomas Williamson, Sr. serves as pastor. The master and mistress of ceremonies for the banquet was Master Sgt. USAF (Retired) Robert Pinnix and LCDR Cindy Jones, US Navy. Carol Pinnix Motley, a Richmond Virginia School Teacher, conducted the memorial service. Music was rendered by Unique Lee, of Knoxville, Tenn., a grand-daughter of Thomas and Nannie Pinnix. Prayer was rendered by Rev. Williamson. Reflections from grand children by MariettaSummers Douglas, a registered nurse in Greensboro, California, Texas, Minnesota, Tennessee, Georgia, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Carol Pinnix Motley served as chairperson for the gathering. Melba Pinnix Summers and Nannie Pinnix Jones served as the honorary chairpersons. The program for the weekend included fun and games, a shopping tour, gathering at the grave sites, a memorial service, a talent show, disco and worship service at the Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist NC. A slide presentation on the lives of Thomas and Nannie was presented by Barbara Pinnix Graves, an industrialist from Warrensville Heights, Ohio. The Variety Talent Show was arranged by Alima Pinnix Lee, a Knoxville, Tenn. school teacher. Eugene Pinnix, the only surviving brother of Thomas was the honored guest. A special presentation was made to the three surviving sons, who also served in the military, by Rev. Frankie T. Jones, Sr. LTC (Retired) grandson, Danville, Va. Rev. Jones presented a 75th medallion commemorating the First World War, participation by Thomas L. Pinnix, Sr., who served in France, with three of his brothers - All returned safely. There are many kind words that continue to be spoken about the lives of Nannie Mae and Thomas L Pinnix, Sr. This reunion wass true testimony to the lives they lived while here on earth. Accordingly, she is noted for promotions that foster greater respect for minority institutions and community organizations; promotions that aid the growth in minority institutions and community organizations; promotions that aid the growth in minority media; and lastly, promotions that create jobs for minorities. In addition to her business interests, Mrs. Jones has a laudable record of community involvement. She is a member of the National Association, and the National Urban League. A native of Winston- Salem, NC, Mrs. Jones received an undergraduate degree in sociology from Howard University and an MBA with honors from Northwestern Un i V ers ity. Mrs. Jones resides in Winston- Salem with her husband and partner, Lafayette Jones, President of SMSi, and their daughter.
