The AC Phoenix April 2003 Page 3 Paul Roane SALISBURY WELCOMES NEW FORD LINCOLN MERCURY DEALERSHIP OWNER It’s 7:00 am., and Paul Roane is already at his desk. Meeting with salesmen, reviewing company cash flow, and planning marketing and advertising budgets, is what makes up this young entre- prenure’s day. Miles away from the telecom munications industry job he worked just 4 years ago, today Paul Roane is one of only 2 African American Lincoln Mercury Mazda dealership owners in the Greater Triad Metropolitan area. A native of Washington, DC, Roane first experienced working for an auto dealership while in school. His Mother, the office manager for the same Ford dealership, encouraged him to learn about all aspects of the business. “For six years I worked in just about every department of that dealership, eventually achieving the position of New Car Make Ready Manager,” recalls Roane. After attending the University of Maryland and Howard University, Roane pursued a career in the computer industry, working for the DC Lottery and Martin Marietta Data Systems. After marrying in his longtime sweetheart (Robin) in 1990, Roane took a Telecommunications position with GTE. From 91 through 94 Roane not only expanded his expertise, he also grew his family, adding 2 daughters and 1 son. “Family has always been a priority for me, states Roane. Today, my Mom, who’s battling Alzheimer’s disease, is currently living with our family”. It was in 1999 when Paul Roane’s career path returned him to the automobile Industry, when he entered the Ford Motor Company’s Minority Retail Development Program. After graduating in 2001, Roane began working in the training dealership as a Special Finance Manager. In 2003 his current opportunity at Salisbury Lincoln Mercury Mazda became available. “The dealership looked right, the community was conducive to family life and after the “boss”, (Roane’s wife) visited the schools and completed the house hunting process, we were sold.” Roane who took over the dealership February 1,2003, understands the challenges facing him. Through diligence and commitment to serving his community, Roane knows he can restore the name recognition of Salisbury Lincoln Mercury Mazda as “The dealer... with the best deal.” We wish him well.
