McNeil- Miller also worked with the Center as a branch director and director of Custom Interventions at their Colorado Springs, Colo., campus. In addition, she served as a teacher and head of school at the Piedmont School in High Point, NC. A native North Carolinian, McNeil-Miller earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a M.ED from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She also received an Ed.D in general administrative leadership from Vanderbilt University. An active member of her community McNeil-Miller is a trustee at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Greensboro Day School. In addition, she is a charter board member of the Guilford Education Alliance and received the Career Achievement Award from the UNC-Greensboro School of Education in 2004. McNeil-Miller and her family live in Summerfield, N.C. They will relocate to Winston-Salem to be a part of the community served by the trust. “Karen is someone of great energy and entrepreneurial spirit,” said Bob Kniejski, president of Wachovia Trust. “The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust will benefit greatly from the breadth of her management, leadership, communication and relationship building skills.” McNeil-Miller was selected after Wachovia, as the trustee, conducted a thorough search process with the help of a consultant from the Philanthropic Initiative. To identify candidates for the position, more than 40 individual interviews were conducted with the staff of the trust, members of Wachovia management, the trust’s executive and advisory board members, community leader grantees, other foundation executives and state public health officials. The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust plays a proactive role in developing partnerships among existing state and community agencies to reach underserved North Carolinians. The trust distributes grants each year to organizations that work with the poor and needy in Forsyth County, and for health care initiatives throughout the state of North Carolina. The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust was created in 1947 by the will of Mrs. William N. Reynolds of Winston-Salem, NC. Three—fourths of the trust’s grants are designated for use for health-related programs and serv ices across North Carolina and one-fourth for the poor and needy of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.
