Page 6 February 2005 The AC Phoenix DELTA FINE ARTS CENTER OPENS Continued from Page 1 be viewed through March 15th. Lisa Corinne Davis and Phiiemona Wiliiamson came for the Grand Opening and the Twin City Choristers sang during Monday’s Open House. In December of 2001, Winston- Salem Fine Arts, Inc., embarked on an exciting project of raising $1,000,000 to acquire a new facility to house their growing cuiturai and educationai program ming, to establish an operating reserve, and for an addition to their endowment fund. They acquired the former ABC iiquor store buiiding at 2611 New Waikertown Road and completed most of its renovations. It was constructed in 1989 and has 4,763 square feet; about three times the old Delta Arts Center at 1511 East Third Street. The new center features a soaring, adaptabie gaiiery space with soft naturai lighting, as weii as track iighting for dispiay purposes. It has a small gift shop, office, storage, work and meeting space, beautiful bathrooms and ample parking. The instaiiation of professionai ciimate controls will allow for the presentation of a far wider range of exhibitions. Executive Director, Dianne Caesar, invites the community to rent this wonderfui space for their speciai activities. Simona Aiien, Capitai Campaign Chair, board member, and one of the originai incorporators of Deita Fine Arts says that they are $155,000 short of the one miiiion doliars needed to complete all their needs. They hope to meet the goai not iater than June 30th. Ail contributions are tax deductible and would be greatly appreciated. She says “the additionai space enabies them to do a better job whiie being more accessible in a great location in the biack community.” Since 1972, Winston-Saiem Deita Fine Arts, inc., has brought to Winston-Saiem and the surrounding community’s outstanding artists and their work, seeking to increase the understanding and appreciation of the arts, particuiariy contributions made by African-Americans. Director Caesar says, “the Center wiii continue to be a cuiturai foca! point, weicoming aii artists and audiences, where the appreciation of visual art, music, literature and education will bring frank and congenial dialogue, enlightment and enjoyment.” The gallery hours are 10am-5pm Tuesday through Friday and from 11am -3pm on Saturday.
