Niger, a former French coiony, gained its independence from France in 1960. The nation progressed from miiitary ruie and became a democrat ic government in 1993. Tandja Mamadou has been president since 1999. Niger shares borders with Aigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Libya, Mali and Nigeria. Aiong with Nigeria, the country wears the name of the River Niger. Dr. Bailey is using a new revolution ary type of braces on the market called Damon Brackets. These self-ligating brackets are reported to speed up the straightening process by reducing the number of adjustments that have to be made, as well as make it less painful for the patient. She will also offer Invisalign, the clear alternative to metal braces. In addition. Dr, Bailey will also treat certain difficult cases with dental and facial disfigurements requiring orthog nathic surgery. Dr. Bailey received her BS degree in Basic Medical Sciences from Winston- Salem State University, her DDS degree from Meharry Medical L’Tanya Joy Bailey, DDS, MS, PLLC College School of Dentistry in Nashville, TN. She also has completed an MS degree in orthodontics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Bailey has won numerous awards and honors, including the National Dental Association’s Colgate Palmolive Award for Excellence in Teaching and Research and is a gradu ate of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine course, which only accepts a select number of applicants each year. She is also a board certified diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics, and most recently has been inducted into the Angle Society of Orthodontics. Dr. Bailey is the mother of two sons, Jordan and Jacob Jefferson, and she attends Saint Philips Moravian Church. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, exercising, going to the beach, and spending time with her family. As member of the University Programming Board she helped organ ize the school’s annual Jazzing event and International Festival. Her senior year in college provided Rhonda with the experience necessary to spark her interest in professional event planning when she worked with the Charlotte Chamber’s Public Information Center and volunteered to assist with planning the chamber’s annual meeting. One might say that her steps were already being ordered. Rhonda is a 1991 graduate of UNCC, where she majored in business and criminal justice.
