Page 14 November 2007 The AC Phoenix Equal Opportunity Day Awards Gala Keith Grandberry, President and CEO and The Winston-Salem Urban League Board of Directors proudly present tlie annual Equal Opportunity Awards Gala on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the Millennium Center, 101 West 5*^ Street in Winston-Salem. The awards gala will take place from 7:00pm-9:00pm and Dinner and Dancing will follow from 9:00pm to midnight. A signature “Red Carpet” event of the year, the Equal Opportunity Day (EOD) Awards Gala provides a venue to honor individuals and corporations that pro vide superior leadership, notable contributions, and serve as strong advocates for com munity involvement and support. The gala with its encompassing theme, “Educating, Elevating, & Empowering Our Community”, is an opportunity to publicly acknowl edge those in our community who put compassion into action to build a caring and inclusive community. The distinguished EOD Awards categories are: Volunteer Award; Community Leader of the Year; Emerging Leader of the Year; Faith-Based Award; Small Business of the Year; Grassroots Organization of the Year; Non-Profit Organization of the Year; Cor poration of the Year; Lifetime Achievement Award; The Urban League Award; and the President’s Award. Nominations for the prestigious EOD awards were submitted by members of the community and the award recipients will be selected by an independent review committee. The final award announcements will be made at the EOD gala event on December 1, 2007. Presentation of these awards to the most distinguished members of our community will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the evening. The Urban League is pleased to welcome Jim Longworth of Triad Today on My 48 Television and Renee Vaughn of QMG Radio as co-hosts of the event. Mr. Longworth is a veteran broadcaster, author, lecturer, columnist and President of Longworth Productions, which specializes in the production of public affairs television programs. A native of Winston-Salem, and a graduate of UNCG, Longworth was an announcer at WSJS radio, an on-air talent for WFMY-TV in Greensboro, WSOC-TV in Charlotte, and WRIC-TV in Richmond, before starting his own company. In 2003, Mr. Longworth created Triad Today, the Piedmont's only locally produced public affairs talk show broadcast on commercial television. In addition to hosting and producing Triad Today, he also created and produced UNCG Today, the state's first and only commercially broadcast University-based talk show, and is host of "Connections" for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Mr. Longworth is the author of TV Creators: Conversations With America's Top Pro ducers of Television Drama, Volume One and Volume Two. His columns and articles have appeared in TV Guide, the Winston-Salem Journal, the Greensboro Observer, and YES! Weekly. He also writes for TVPartv.com. Mr. Longworth is a voting member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Ms. Renee Vaughn, News Director, WQMG-FM and host of the Tom Joyner Morning Show is a native of Washington, DC. A favorite radio personality, Ms. Vaughn is a master of integrating community involvement into media broadcasts. She hosts a Sat urday morning community focus program that highlights programs and events that serve and empower the community. Her first radio position was with the legendary 980 Triple A in Winston- Salem. Ms. Vaughn is widely known for her uplifting and inspiring message that wakes the community in the early morning and keeps the listening audience abreast of important community news and developments in the Triad area. In addition to the celebrity co-hosts entertainment for the evening includes an artistic musical performance by the Cyrus Art Production and Envision Band.
