Page 10 May 2008 The AC Phoenix A Psychological Analysis of Barack Obama 'RSPECTIVES Jivif ' to.(-jj By: Harry R. Davidson, Ph.D. —Guest Columnist- Senator Obama has denounced his Christian spiritual leader, suggesting that Rev. Wright’s fiery messages are like the ranting of an angry old uncle. Senator Obama distances himself from his spiritual leader to satisfy the secular power elite. Both Minister Louis Farrakhan and Rev. Jeremiah Wright are our spiritual leaders. White Supremacy is threat ened by what they perceive as “uppity trouble making Negroes.” They choose to deny both men freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Rev. Wright teaches and practices Black Liberation Theology. Christ himself taught and prac ticed this as he spoke out against and freed the believers from the powers of his time. Consistent with his meta-physical namesake, Rev. Jeremiah Wright represents the exalted state of conscious ness that serves to connect Christians with Christ who.repre sents the higher self of man, divine ideals’ and values that include intelligence. Intelligence stands out and intelligence incorlporates the sirit of discernment or liberating .insight. Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Black Liberation Theology is attuned to that of Jesus Christ himself. (Oh, yes. Most of us would reject Jesus Christ if he were to return to us and be both Black and radical.) It takes strong moral people to resist White Supremacy. Messages like those espoused by Minister Farrakhan and Rev. Wright confront America’s state of denial. Metaphysically the Biblical Jeremiah symbolized the individual who demon strates courage; one who does not shrink from speaking truth. Called the sorrow ful prophet, Jeremiah prophesied evil intentions. When Senator Obama joined the Trinity United Church of Christ, he accepted his pastor as God’s representative in the flesh. Senator Obama has now chosen to turn away from Jeremiah to embrace the will of man. His worldly ambitions have confused him. Obama should have simply taken the moral high ground in underscoring Rev. ' Wright’s freedom of speech and Obama’s freedom to worship where he chooses. He should have challenged the fact that his adversaries have chosen to deny their constitutional rights. Instead, Senator Obama took a defensive posture that left him pinned against the ropes. If he had simply taken the offense by standing behind the constitutional rights of all Americans he would be on the offense rather than having to explain every action and thought he has. The White Supremacy mentality can never understand or respect Black people, whom they perceive as inferior to them. In addition, they will not take responsibility for acts that cause them to feel guilty. Hence, Obama will be forced to continue to apologize in ways that cause many to lose respect for him. Senator Obama’s dilemma is that he can’t just wake up one day and incorporate Black consciousness. The late Dr. Charles Thomas, the father of “Black Psychology” formulated a step-by-step process that the individual must go through. He proposed a process he called from “Negromacy to Black.” He characterized the Negro as dependent on Whites; possessing a need for the approval of Whites; unquestioning obedience to White authority; preoccupation with the attitudes of Senator Obama must now question those who claim righteous authority, as they assume the role of divine judgment. Who are they to judge Rev. Wright, Minister Farrakhan or any other leader? Who are they to judge Senator Obama and is his quest for the presidency worth the loss of his salvation? Whites; poor self-perception; unrealistic expectation that the system of White Supremacy is apt to change; and a continuation of the Negroes pathological state. The stages for becoming Black include: An immersion or baptism in African cul ture, a critical knowledge of the history of European colonialism; mindfulness of the African Holocaust including enslavement and unjust treatment. In addition, the Negro must confront his fear of White authority; develop responsibility and take con trol of his destiny and the destiny of the race. It is essential to understand the terminology I am using in my analysis. Whereas, the term genotype refers to the individual’s racial make-up, phenotype refers to the interaction of the genotype and the culture, family and social environment. A radi cal is one who seeks root changes. In America, the term Black has a direct rela tionship to a radical political movement that occurred primarily during the ‘60s and ‘70s. The movement grew out of the plight and struggles of oppressed grassroots people who were victims of oppression, injustice and racism. It was only after the fire simmered that the term Black became more acceptable to people who had pre viously preferred to be called Negroes. Senator Obama has not seen fit to develop Black consciousness. His father was a Black African and his mother was White. He was raised by his White mother. White stepfather and his White grandparents. He lived in Indonesia and was sub sequently indoctrinated at Columbia and Harvard Law School. My point is that although his genotype is Black his phenotype is not. Perhaps Barack Obama sought out Rev. Wright as a father symbol whose tutelage was needed to affirm his Blackness. The sons and daughters of Black and White mixed marriages have problems accepting the existence of White Supremacy. Many experience a conflict. Subconsciously they feel that if they affirm the presence of White Supremacy they are rejecting their White parents. Instead, they choose denial and idealize a world in which race does not matter. Many individuals of mixed parents have even advocated for a separate official racial category to accommodate them. They remain in denial despite the reality of evidence of a White Supremacy agenda. The elite have put in place a strategy designed to stifle the voices of dissent; undermine and control religion and other uniting agencies, dumb down the educational system; attack free speech; and create division both between and within the various racial, political, sexual and generational groups. Senator Obama must now question those who claim right eous authority, as they assume the role of divine judgment. Who are they to judge Rev. Wright, Minister Farrakhan or any other leader? Who are they to judge Senator Obama and is his quest for the presidency worth the loss of his sal vation? For centuries the world has been involved in a struggle to determine if man is going to be governed by God or man. America’s power-elite are attempting to silence all voices of dissent and protest. The reason that the media keeps percep tions of hate-speech and the role of religion in the forefront is to justify banning speech and fostering controls over religion.
