The AC Phoenix May 2008 Page 3 Gala Celebrating the NAAWLI National Legacy of Leadership Award National African American Women’s Leadership Institute was launched in 1998 as a part of the Women’s Leadership Institute at Bennett College for Women. It seeks emerging women leaders The award was presented to Dr. Dudley by Mrs. Barbara Tolliver Haskins, Past President of NAA WLI Board of Directors, Dr. Eunice Mosiey Dudley, Honoree/Awardee, Co founder and Chief Financial Officer, Dudley Beauty Products, Inc, and Executive Director Dudley Beauty Schools System; and Dr. Gloria Randle Scott, Co-Chair NAAWLI National Legacy of Leadership Award Gala. committed to bringing about constructive change in their communi ties. NAAWLI's goal is to promote the unique talents and contri butions that women make across the nation. The programs selec tively identify women whose leadership talents are already proven and take them to higher levels of contribution. The goal is to foster an environment of creativity, support, mentoring and challenge. The Board of Directors continues to seek state-of-the-art leader ship programs that will benefit not only our fellows, but also the organizations and communities they serve. The first Legacy of Leadership Award was presented in 2004 to Dr. Dorothy I. Height. The second Legacy of Leadership Award was presented to Dr. Eunice Mosley Dudley, April 26, 2008, at the Sheraton in Greensboro, NC. Dr. Eunice Mosley Dudley is the Co Founder and Chief Financial Officer of Dudley Beauty Products, Inc. and Executive Director of the Dudley Products’ Six Cosmetology Schools throughout the United States. Dr. Dudley was honored by Biz Magazine in 2007 as one of the Outstanding Women of the Piedmont. She has served in several capacities as a volunteer in local, regional and national organizations. Dr. Jannie Lathan, President of Lathan Consulting Corporation, was the Mistress of Ceremonies. Lady Dale McClenton of Philadelphia was the guest artist. The Keynote Speaker was LaVerne Council, Corporate Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Johnson and Johnson, Corporation. She spoke on the topic “The Audacity of Can.” Ms. Council was introduced by Ms. Nancy Lane, retired from Johnson and Johnson who was the first Corporate Level African American at Johnson and Johnson, and former Chair of the Board of Trustees of Bennett College for Women. Proclamations from Kernersville and Selma, Alabama were presented, accolades were presented from several organiza tion and persons, including Providence Baptist Church, Rev. Howard Chubbs; NCATSU, Dr. Velma Speight-Buford; Bennett College for Women, Ms. Wanda Mobley; and Top Ladies of Distinction, Lady Rebecca Graves. Providence Baptist Church Girl Scout Troop presented the colors. Ursula Dudley Oglesby presented on behalf of the Dudley Family. Earlier in the day at the close of the National African American Women’s Leadership Institute Leadership Conference Workshops, Dr. Dudley presented the Luncheon Speech to local and national participants which included local college women and professional Women from Bennett College for Women, North Carolina A and T State University, high school students from the Top Teens Organization, UNCG and Winston Salem State, Dudley Cosmetology School and from South Carolina and Chicago. Col. Robin A. Ramsey, of High Point, North Carolina, is the initial recipient of the Founders Intergenerational Achievement Recognition. She is the daughter of Charles Ramsey and Gloria Brown Ramsey of High Point. The NAAWLI Legacy of Leadership Award is presented by the National African-American Women’s Leadership Institute to recog nize and honor the contributions of outstanding individuals in lead ership roles in the corporate, for-profit and non-profit sectors. The Legacy of Leadership Award is an expression of NAAWLI’s mission to continue the tradition of developing the leadership potential of generations of African-American women. The award celebrates those individuals whose lives reflect a long-standing commitment and dedication to developing, supporting and nurturing African- American women in various fields of endeavor.
