NC) — The Housing Authority of Winston- Salem and the Winston-Salem Urban League have partnered in aji effort to increase employment opportunities for Housing Authority reSfaents in Forsyth County. The Quality of Life Employment Program was recently announced by Larry Woods, Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Authority, and Keith Grandberry, Chief Executive Officer of the Urban League, when the two signed a memorandum of understanding. The purpose of the program is to provide Housing Authority residents job readiness tools needed for gainful employment. The Urban League will provide the job-readiness train- Woods said the Housing Authority was entering the contrac tual agreement with the Urban League on a pay-for-performance scale. Grandberry championed the collaboration. “I think this is great. It is something that’s needed in our community, especially with the econ omy and the statewide unemployment rate being what they are,” Grandberry said. “In the state of North Carolina, thirty percent of families are consid ered ‘working poor.’ This is an op portunity to make a difference in our community.
