Gray, Jr. Auditorium Old Salem Visitor Center 900 Old Salem Road "Slavery, Broadway, and Hollywood" As we celebrate Juneteenth, the country's longest-running observance of the abolition of slavery, we invite you to join us in a conversation as experts from the field discuss how slavery is portrayed on stage and film and how it affects social thought. Participants include: • Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin, Executive Producer of the National Black Theatre Festival • Dr. John Fleming, historian, author, academician and museum expert • Samm Art-Williams, playwright, screen writer, and a stage/film and TV actor • Dale Pollock, faculty of the North Carolina School of the Arts and producer of feature films which have received Academy Award nominations. The St. Philips Cedric S. Rodney Unity Award will be presented during the luncheon. The award was established in honor of the late Rev. Dr. Cedric S. Rodney, a Moravian minister, who led the restoration efforts of the Historic St. Philips Moravian Church in Old Salem. Admission includes special programming, lunch, and a tour of the St. Philips African Moravian Church, the oldest standing African American Church in North Carolina, where the ending of slavery was announced on Sunday, May 21, 1865.
