December 9, 1932 QUEENS BLUES Page Three — SORORITY NEWS QUEENS-CHICORA RECEIVES A GRADE RATING Alpha Gamma Delta Mary China Stephenson and Rosalie Wyman were hostesses at the last Alpha Gamma Delta feed. Twenty - eigdit meml^ers were present. Preparations were made for the visit of Miss Julia Riser, inspector of Alpha Gamma Delta. Alpha Gamma Delta pledges entertained the faculty and other sorority pledges with a depres sion party on November 22. In vitations were written on wrap ping paper. A sign on the door, “Welcome to the Poorhouse,” greeted the guests. The room was bare, except for a few dilapidated chairs. A sign pointed to a bread line where hot dogs were served. Another led to hot coffee. Favors consisted of red, buff, and green colored candy. a picnic was held in the woods. Sunday night Virginia and Frances Carey were hostesses at the regular Sunday night feed. Alpha Delta Theta Elizabeth Cassels entertained the members and pledges of Alpha Delta Theta sorority at the chap ter house on Sorority Row No vember 20, from 7:00 to 9:00 in the evening. Grouped around a fire whose cheery flames furnish ed the only light, the girls sang many Alpha Delta Theta songs. Concluding one of the gayest and most enjoyed of a series of Sun day night functions, Miss Cassels served a beautifully prepared supper in two courses. Kappa Delta Louise Alexander and Mar garet Jones had the regular Sun day night feed last Sunday at the Kappa Delta sorority house. Be sides the regular members and pledges of the sorority several alumnae and visitors were pres ent. Emily Collins accepted the pledge of membership into Kappa Delta. The pledge service was held the first part of this week The remaining Sunday nigdit feeds from now until Christmas have been planned. On Sunday, December 11, the mothers of the day students will be guests. On the following Sunday, December 18, the sorority will have its regu lar Christmas social and Christ mas tree. In 1925 Dr. Frazer appeared before the South ern Association seeking rating on the list of approved non-mem bers. Up until December, 1932, Queens-Chicora has been given a provisional A grade rating, hav ing met the twenty-one require ments of the association. Since 1921 new buildings have been erected, standards of the faculty have been raised; at present, there are six faculty members with doctor's degrees and nine Alpha Delta Pi Friday evening Frances flray of Charlotte was pledged into the sorority with a solemn and im pressive ceremony. Following this, Herbert Hickenbliecker gave a possum hunt for the day stu dents of the sorority at his estate on the Carmel road. After this, Chi Omega Theta Gamma chapter of Chi Omega fraternity announces the initiation of two new members: Sarah Page Murray of S. C., and Ruth Turner of Pink Hill, N. C. Phi Mu Hilda Clontz and Louise Miller were hostesses to a feed at the Phi Mu house Sunday night, De ceniber 4. The table was laid for fifteen members and pledges. with the degree of master of arts. There are 13,000 volumes in the library. Mr. Carson’s closing words were : “Dr. Frazer has been the guide and inspiration which has led us today where we come to celebrate the era from June, 1921 to December, 1932. To him goes all the honor, the glory, and thanks of us all for what has been accomplished during these few years.” Recognition and praise was accorded to Mr. E. E. Jones, treasurer of the endowment fund, and to Mr. Hunter Marshall for his legal services during the con solidation of Queens and Chicora.
