Page 4 QUEEN’S BLUES October 28, 1933 mm Thelma Stone In the fall of 1925, Thelma Stone entered Queens-Chicora College as a Freshman. Last week she left her Alma Ma ter to accept a responsible po sition as secretary to the manager of the Home Loan Bureau, located in Salisbury, N. C. Eight years ago Thelma came to Queens from Anchor age, Ky., to receive her edu cation. We who did not know her at that time can see that she studied diligently and maintained a high scho lastic record by a glance at the comments accompanying her picture in the Edelweiss. She was a member of four of the honorary societies on our campus—the Latin Club, Phi Beta Chi, the English Club, and the Iota Xi. Her leadership is also proved by the fact that dur ing the last two years of her college life she was chosen as an officer of each of these so cieties. These two lines which were quoted beneath her pic ture seem to us quite fitting: ‘Those graceful acts, those thousand decencies That daily flow from all her words and actions.” In the spring of 1929 she received her A.B. degree in French. For the next four years she remained at Queens as secretary to Dr. Frazer. During this time she had charge of the Book Store and also taught a class in typing. Her two chief interests be sides her work are music and French. When in high school at Anchorage, Ky., she stud ied music and after coming here kept up her practice. Miss Stone has spent her summer vacations doing grad uate work in French. In the summer of 1931 she went to France with Mrs. Smith, a member of our faculty, and studied at the University of Grenoble and at L’Alliance Francais. During this past summer she worked on her Master’s Degree at Chapel Hill. Her leaving Queens-Chicora came as a surprise to us all. Since her departure we have heard many favorable com ments about her. A member of our faculty remarks, “Thelma is proficient and ver satile. I’m: glad that she is doing so well.” A Freshman Rat Week Well Under Way (Continued from Page 1, Col. 6) forehead so that no hair shows anywhere. 4. You will be divided into companies. 5. She was so businesslike and all, but I soon found out that she really wasn’t such a bear.” Then the dignified Senior ex presses the sentiment of most of us when she says, “I can’t imagine Queens-Chicora with out Thelma. She just seems to belong here.” VALETERIA CLEANING COMPANY “Beautiful Dry Cleaning” The Human Thing to Do Cash and Carry Your Dry Cleaning Next to the “Little Store” MAXWELL BROS. & McDonald Philco Radios Furniture 217 South Tryon Street Economics Club is Reorganized (Continued from Page 1, Col. 1) Mr. Courtney, from Ivey’s, gave an interesting talk on “How to Buy Clothes.” His subject carried us through a “Jewish Hordwane”—which is a shop for women’s ready to wear.
