Newly Decorated Pi Hall
Is Presented To School
Dean Agnew Accepts Reception
Room In Behalf of
All Students
Tlie formal presentation of the
newly redecorated Pi Hall of Queens-
Chicora College was made Friday
morning during the chapel hour.
Mary Currie, president of the Stu
dent Government, and Freddie
Ward, president of Boarding Stu
dent Body, presented the newly fur
nished room to Dean Virginia Miller
Agnew. In this presentation, they
expressed their hopes that it will en
rich the environment of the girls
of the college.
Mrs. Agnew very graciously ac
cepted the gift with an expression
of her gratitude for the work of the
students in supporting this project.
She ])raised Mary and Freddie, as
well as the head of each organiza
tion which supported the project, for
their sj)lendid work. Slie expressed
her desire that every girl would en
joy the beauty and comfort of tliis
addition, since every girl gave her
full co-operation.
In turn, Mrs. Agnew ])resented the
furniture to Dr. Frazer as a gift
for the college parlor. Upon re
ceiving the gift. Dr. Frazer thanked
Mrs. Agnew and the students.
At 3:00 o'clock Friday afternoon,
the doors of the Hall were formally
opened with a tea from 3:00 to 6:00
and from 7:00 to 10:00. Dr. and
Mrs. Frazer, Mr. and Mrs. David
Ovens, Mrs. Clara Woodruff (In
terior Decorator of the room), and
Mrs. Agnew, by way of receiving, as
sisted the presidents of the organi
zations whieh contributed to the
project.
During the hours of this informal
tea, light refreshments were served
to students, faculty' members, alum
nae, and manv friends of the college
who called.
Sororities Give
Radio Programs
On Station WBT
Two more sororities have recently'
Jiresented their programs over the
air waves in competition for the lov
ing cup to be presented to the group
giving the best fifteen-minute pro
gram. Tliree sororities. Alpha Delta
Theta, Alpha Gamma Delta, and
Phi Mu have previously- been heard.
The fourth program in the series
was that of Alpha Delta Pi, pre.sent-
ed on March 1. Frances Marian
f)'Hair was the announcer, and the
group started with the singing of the
Alpha Delta Pi National Song after
which the announcer gave a brief
summary- of the history- of the soro
rity-. The rest of the time was taken
with group singing of sorority-
songs. These were: “Our Dear Old
Aljiha Delta Pi,” “I Love the Pin,”
“Alpha Delta Pi Sweetheart,” and
“It’s Just a Tiny- Pin.”
I he Kappa Delta program, pre
sented March 7, with Ashley- Dulin
announcing, represented a typical
■light at the sorority- house. The first
number. “On A K.D. Honey-moon,”
''■as sung by- a grou)) of seven girls.
Following this a conversation similar
to that held by- most girls was given
tiy members of the organization.

Iota Xi, honorary- Journalistic fra
ternity- on the Queens - Chicora
campus, took in four new- members
during the Chapel jirogram March 5.
The girls honored for their outstand
ing work in the field of Journalism
w-ere: Georgia Underwood of Char
lotte, Helen Hatcher of Winchester,
Va., Mildred I.owrance and Martha
Raeburn of Charlotte, Lib Gammon,
Barbara Shatzer, and IJb Calder all
of Charlotte, w-ere given honorable
mention.
Mary- Currie w-as in charge of the
service and she told of the meaning
of the fraternity-, while Jo Hackney
gave its purposes. It accepts for
membership those who have done
w'ork of a creditable nature on the
college publications and fosters
greater interest in this field.
Georgia Underw'ood is known for
her annual work. She is an officer
of the State Press Association.
Helen Hatcher is present editor-
in-chief of the Queems Blues.
Martha Raeburn is active on both
the paper and annual staff.
Mildred Low-rance is business man
ager of the Queems Blues.
Mrs. Agnew Sets
Tentative Date
For May Day
Setting May- 6 as a tentative date,
jilans are rapidly- being comjileted
for the climax of the spring school
y-ear. May- Day. This date has also
been set aside as Higb Sebool Hos
pitality- Day-, Dean Agnew- has an
nounced, and at that time Queens
will ojien its doors to its many- high
school friends from here and other
nearby- cities.
Miss Henderson, in charge of the
May Day festivities, and the com
mittees are preparing to present the
queen, Helen Jenkins, and her court
in truly- regal sty-le. It is expected
that the usual large crowd w'ill ar
rive at Queens for the event.
Freshmen
Active
In School
'fhe freshman class, under the guid
ance of Mildred Sneeden, president,
has had a Very- active y-ear. Many
obstacles have been overcome with
the help of the Junior class.
With Mildred as leader, the girls
succtssfully- survived the jiunishments
put on them by the sojihomores, w-ith
Eleanor Guyton their head, during
Rat Week.
Next the freshmen had to make
their first attemjit at the annual Stunt
Night. Mary Payne was chairman
of the stunt and Pedie Burke w-as
leader of the gallery-. The stunt theme
w-as based on try- outs for the part
of Scarlet ()'Har;i in “Gone With
the Wind.” The class made a favor-

Alpha Kappa Gamma Takes
In Two Queens
Girls
Alpha Kappa Gamma, national
leadership fraternity, held its annual
spring tapping service on Friday-,
March 11, during the chapel period.
Dr. Frazer opened the service with
the devotional, and then the fol,low-
ing new- members w-ere tapped.
Sally- McDow-ell, of Pacoletr, S. C.,
and Sue Mauldin of Charlotte, both
members of the Junior class.
Mrs. John H. Redhead, Jr., of
Charlotte, and Miss Frances Smith
of Greer, S, . Cj., were elected as
alumnae members of the fraternity.
Mrs. Redhead is an alumna of the
Joan of Arc Circle of Alpha Kappa
Gamma of State Teacher’s College
in Farmw-ell, Virginia. She is author
of the song, “Hail To Thee, Alpha
Kappa Gamma.” Miss Smith is As
sistant to the Dean of Instruction at
(Queens. During her senior y-ear here
she w-as President of the boarding
students.
The purpose of the fraternity- is to
recognize leadership in the student
body- in scholai-Jiip, active leader
ship, athletics, and social life.

Queens-Cbicora College w-ere pre
sented over station WSOC, March
2 and 9.
The first program was announced
by- Marion McManus. Margaret
Flowe, violin ])upll of Mr. Don
Richardson, accompanied by- Jo
Hackney-, played Handel’s “Largo”,
after w'hich Harriet Truesdale gave
a piano selection, “Stardust.” A talk,
w-ritten by- Dr. Ethel Abernathy-, pro
fessor of psychology-, was read by-
Frances Marian O’Hair, a pupil of
psy-chologv, and tbe ])rogram w-as
concluded with another rendition by-
Margaret Flowe.
The i)rogram given March 9 w-as
unlike any- of the others presented in
that it consisted of a tour of the
music building by- Dr. Godard and
Ronald Jenkins, of the announcing
staff of station WSOC. They- dis
cussed the ])racticing of the students,
and several were heard over the alr-
w-aves.
FRESHMAN DAY
The Freshman day- student of
Queens-Chicora recently- elected Caro
line Edwards of Charlotte as fresh-
freshman representative to the Day-
Students’ Council. Caroline has been
active in freshman activities and has
made excejitional grades in her
studies.
Eleanore EJdv of Pinehurst had
])reviously- been elected freshman
re])resentatlve to the boarding stu
dent council. Eleanor has also been
active in school activities and is a
member of the Alpha Delta Theta
Sororitv.

Queens Girls Will Take Active
Part In Press
Meeting
The State Press Association w-ill
meet in Charlotte May- 5, 6, and 7,
w-ith Queens-Chicora College acting
as hostess for the occasion.
Georgia Underw-ood is in charge
of local arrangements for the meet
ing and several entertainments have
been planned for those who will at
tend. A luncheon w-ill be given on
the college campus. The May- Day-
festivities w-ill also take place on this
day- and the grouj) w-ill be among the
visitors w'ho w-ill view- the event.
Colleges from all over the state,
including Davidson, Cha])el Hill,
North Carolina State College, and
Ayoman’s State College w-ill be re])re-
sented at the convention.
Those from Queens who w-ill at
tend are: Georgia Underwood, of
Charlotte, Lib Calder, Charlotte,
Helen Hatcher, Winchester, Va.,
Mildred Lowrance, Mary- Currie, and
probably- others.”
Junior Class To
Sponsor Comedy
To Obtain Money
The Junior class of Queens-Chicora
will present a three-act comedy-, “His
Father's Son,” in the college audi
torium, May- 15.
This jday- is being put on by- the
same company that showed the Tom
Thumb Circus, sponsored bv the senior
class recently-.
Helen Cumnock, ))resident of the
class, is in charge of the program
and tickets are being sold by- all
members of the class. The money-
received from the sale of tickets w-ill
be used in the annual entertainment
of the seniors. This entertainment
W'ill be in the form of a banquet to
be beld at the Charlotte Hotel.
Furman Glee Club
To Give Program
On March 24, at 8:00 o'clock, the
Furman College Glee Club will j)re-
sent an entertainment in the Queens
Auditorium, it w'as announced this
w'eek by- Dean Agnew-.
Forty- y'oung men of that college
are making a good-w-ill tour to va
rious southern cities. Their ])rograni
w-i!l consist of familiar and light-
classic numbers. Dick Burts, man
ager of the club, has completed nego
tiations w-ith Mrs. Agnew.
The day- students of Queens will
entertain the Furman boys during
their visit in Charlotte. Supi)er, a
night's lodging, and breakfast w-ill
be furnished for them.
Of the fifty-three girls recently- in
itiated into sororities, thirty-nine w-ere
freshmen.

African Project
Nearing Goal
Nearing the goal set in the African
Project, the Cabinet members are
very- w-ell ])Ieased w-ith the results
of their campaign up to date. How--
ever, the money- w-ill not be sent until
all pledges have been ])aid.
About tw-o hundred dollars in cash
has been received and well over fifty-
dollars in ))ledges. The drive to hel])
buy- an X-ray- machine for the African
hospital has been going on for several
weeks now- and the (Queens girls hoj)e
to be able to finish this j)roJect, start
ed by- the Davidson boy-s, in the near
future.
