Honored At Queens-Chicora College
Alpha Delta Theta Inspector
Accorded Many Honors
In Charlotte
Mrs. Violet Young Gentry of Man-
hassett, New York, national inspector
of Alpha Delta Theta national social
fraternity, was the guest of the local
chapter at Queens Chicora college
this week from Tuesday at noon until
Thursday when she left to inspect
Alpha Alpha chapter at the College
of Charleston in Charleston, S. C.
Mrs. Gentry was entertained on
Tuesday afternoon by Psi chapter
in the liouse on sorority row on back
oampus, with an afternoon tea to
whieh faculty members were invited
to meet her. On Tuesday night the
Charlotte alumnae association lion-
ored Mrs. Gentry with a dinner at
the Myers Park Country Club. Later
tneinhers of the Charlotte Pan-Hel
lenic Association were invited to meet
lier at the home of Mrs. J. A. Mayo,
'vith whom she saved while here.
On Wednesday she held conferences
'vith the various members of the
local chapter and on Wednesday
night a feed was given for her, fol
lowing the completion of inspection
Mrs. Gentry is chairman of the
National Pan-Hellenic Congress, be
ing the delegate from Alpha Delta
Theta. She is chairman also of the
national expansion committee of the
Sorority. Mrs. Gentry was one of
the founders of Alpha Delta Theta,
which was founded at Transylvania
College in Lexington, Kentucky, in
1919. At present there are twenty-
six ehapters.

torium, at which time two faculty
members and four students were hon

tile Spectator Club enjoyed a joint
meeting and juirty with the Philan
thropic Literary Society of Davidson
College. The affair was held in the
recreation hut of the Myers Park
Presbyterian Church.
Each of the two societies took part
«ii the program. A skit was pre
sented by the dramatic group of the
Queens club, and original jiocms were
the contribution of the Creative
Writing group. Frances Riddle
rendered several vocal selections. The
Havidson society also gave an enter
taining program, under the charge
of Rod Williams, who is president
of the group.
Gaines were enjoyed under the di
rection of Frances Hunter, and re
freshments were servd at the clos»
of the evening’s entertainment.

Spectator Club and Frances Hunter
is secretary-treasurer. Leaders of

Miss Emma B. Hopkins, interior
designer of New Vork City, was guest

ing, October 8.
Mrs Esther Wright Huffman, head
of the art department of the college,
introduced Mrs. Osmond L.
of Charlotte, who presented Miss
Hopkins. Miss Hopkins’ topic o
discussion was “'Faste, Form and
Restraint in a College Girls Life.
She pointed out that in conversa
tion we are unable to determine the
college degree possessed by our part
ner hi conversation, but that we are
able to tell whetber or not that per
son has developed taste from his
college education.
Miss Hopkins emphasized the im
portance of developing taste m ar
rangement of a room, the tone o
the speaking voice, and the-selec ion
of clothes, especially, althoug i
needed in other things, also.
In conclusion Miss Hopkins said
“Taste is a thing that doesn t just
happen, and you can’t start too soon
to develoji it.”
Miss Hopkins is noted in her line
of work with her own studio in New
York, from where she plans to ov^n
a branch in Charlotte with Mrs.
Barringer in charge. She has been
associated with the Todhunter sc^mol
in New York and Barnard College,
Columbia University, where she de
signed the dean’s home and various
college rooms and parlors. Her pme
panel study was named the best stui^
in New York last year. She spoke
at the Mint Museum in Charlotte on
October 1.
Five of the national social sorority
chapters on the Queens-Chicora col
lege camiius have elected officers of
their new pledge groups. Aliiha
Delta Theta officers w-ill be announced
soon.

The Home Economics Club of
Queens-Chicora College gave a fashion
show last night in the auditorium of
the college at 8:00 o’clock. The show
w-as sponsored by- Ivey’s Department
Store.
Fall and winter styles were shown
by the follow-ing models: Sara Du
rant, Sally McDowell, Nancy Hovis,
Marjorie Poole, Adele Sutherland,
Sybil Trexler, Katherine McQueen
Martin, and Anneal Triplette.
Prizes were offered for lucky- tick
ets by- several local firms including
Pollock’s, Purcell’s, Eckerd’s, Mv
Shop, Liggett's, Merriman’s, Rhealee,
Carolina Sw-eet, Roscland Florist,
Sanitary- Bakery-, and Mason’s, and
many- others.

of the club. Other oflicers have not
been elected. Members include stu
dents of home economics.

Eleanor Alexander of Knoxville,
Tenn., presided over the service. Dr.
W. H. Frazer read for the devotional
from the tw-elfth chapter of Romans,
after which the Lord’s Prayer was
pray-ed. Miss Alex.-inder then gave
a brief resume of the history- of the
organization and its purpose. Mrs.
James Huntington play-ed “Largo” on
the organ during the entire service.
Miss Robinson is head of the voice
dejiartment of the college, director
of the Choral Club, and adviser for
the local chajiter of Alpha Delta Pi.
She w-as educated at the Institute
of Musical Art in New York City and
did graduate work in the •luilliard
School of Music in New- York. She
studied abroad in Paris for tw-o years
under M. La Pierre.
Miss Albright was lust year di
rector of the dramatic group of the
Spectator Club and is this year
chairman of the freshman advisers.
She is an instructor in English and
frequently makes talks to the Book
Tea group about current novels. She
is also adviser for the Alpha Delta
Theta social sorority chapter. Miss
Albright was educated at Green.s-
boro Woman’s college in Greensboro
and received her M.A. degree from
Duke University.
Miss Durant is a senior this year
and has held the offices of treasurer
of the junior and senior classes, first
vice-president of the hoarding stu
dent bod^, treasurer of the Choral
Club, representative to Pan-Hellenic
for Alpha Delta Theta, treasurer of
41pha Delta 'I'heta, and secretary- of
the Student Christian A.ssoeiation.
She is a member of Psi chapter of
Alpha Delta Theta.
Miss Fuller is a junior this year
and offices held by- her include presi
dent of the junior class, secretary- of
the Atheltic Association, junior rejire-

sociation, group leader of the Book
Tea group of the Spectator Club,

and chairman of rat w-eek. She is
a member of Aljiha Omicron ehajiter
of Kappa Delta.
Miss Brown is a junior and is
