November 2, 1945 QUEENS BLUES Page 3 SLINGING THE DUST Come one, come all down to the Rec Room to hear our new nickelodian and the latest gossip. Over the blaring notes of “Tam pico” you can hear Peggy Mit chell and Ann Abernethy discuss ing the fun they’ll have at An napolis in a couple of weeks, when they visit Sydney and his “wife” (more normally known as his roommate) . . . Where’s Betsy Brown? She ought to be in on this discussion too. . . . Also you can see Venie’s new dance, which is something unique to say the least. . . . And speaking of dances, “Dugie” is really on the beam. The new name for the Chi O House is “Doris, Where She Danced.” . . . Carolyn Porter’s wedding, and Betsy Jones’ wed ding-to-be are something to think about. . . . That is, for all ex cept poor Carol. Ralfe’s going overseas soon, but just give them time! . . . Scott’s not sad tho’; Bob is coming home in just about one month. . . . Camille Jamison made quite a hit with a certain Davidson boy, we hear. Five dol lars for taxi fare just to see her— must be LUV . . . Anice Miller says she is through waiting for men—they can wait for her for awhile. . . . Those lovely strains of “Jack n’ Jill” coming from the music bldg, aren’t being pro duced by grammar school kids. If you like MUSIC Sweet and HOT STAY TUNED TO THE 610 Spot On Your Dial WAYS Addison Grill GOOD HOME COOKED MEALS Special Dining Rooms For Parties and Banquets COMPLIMENTS OF CHARLOnE FISH & OYSTER CO. It’s just Nancy “Phi Delt” Gard ner pushing the ivory around. . . . For real talent, look up Lil De- Armon. We hear that her lovely self-portrait is a definite master piece. . . . From now on, the Boar’s Head is closed to everyone except couples after the football games. Seems that the high school boys created too ’much rumpus, so they decided that only an at tractive date could hold them down. Kitty Crane was certainly in a stew several weeks ago. The cause—her man was in town. The effect—gosh, ask Kitty. . . . Mary Jane Patterson is getting slightly crossed trying to keep up with those two men. One is available, and the other ain’t 'around. But ole man Mose don’ prophecied that soon Rip will take a pow der, and Jack a trip. ... It is certainly swell to hear that Helen Woodside’s brother is home. An other “war family” is glowing now. . . • McCulloch will be a hockey champion if she keeps up those practices. . . . Wonder why it is that so many players come back all beat up? Warner was sporting a beautiful swollen mouth several Wednesdays ago—and it WAS from hockey! By the way, Warner, keep up your grand record —Alpha Kappa Gamma, and Sigma Mu both in one week isn’t so bad. . . . Those Navy pUots really added a “bell-bottomed” touch to Charlotte last week. And their maneuvers (in the air, of course) were ^beautiful. . . . The Minute Grill Famous For Good Food Charlotte — Gastonia Roseland Florist Beautiful Flowers For All Occasions 300 N. Well, lend an ear and I’ll tell you all I know. I don’t have much time to go up town these busy days, but the other afternoon I just took the time to go anyway, and Tm really glad I did. I found more won derful things! You know it’s very hard to find just what you want these days, so my advice (I learn ed from experience) is not to make up your mind too definitely about what you want. Just have a general idea and then, chances are you’ll be more satisfied with what you do get. I don’t mean that you should go up town and buy something you don’t particu larly like because you can’t do any better, but by all meaiis get some thing that will fit in Y(fith what you have. Believe rne, you’ll be much happier in the end. Enough of my lecturing. I was telling you all the things I had seen up town, and I got a little off the subject, didn’t I? First, the windows of the Darling Shop looked very interesting, so I just walked on in the store and up the stairs. One of the first things I saw were some jerkin suits. They are tweed and come in shades Dilworth Food Store 1251 East Boulevard Complete Assortment of Quality Foods ■ PRINTING TELEPHONE 3 6608 SMITH BOOK STORE Largest Stock of Books, Pictures and Frames In the South 402 W. MOREHEAD ST. of tan and green—a nice varia tion from our uniform of skirts ’n sweaters. Incidentally, I found some jackets to match. Now wouldn’t that make a practical and attractive suit? Then the clerk insisted that I take a look at the new nighties they had got ten in, and when I saw them, I knew why she had wanted me to see them. They are cotton jer sey (like those we used to get before the war) in pastel shade. Just the thing for those cold nights that are bound to come. And—surprise! The Darling Shop has raincoats in black (that satin-y material) and red and beige gab ardine. Just thought I’d let you know since I’ve heard several of you say you were having a hard time finding them. Need any new cosmetics? There’s a grand sale on at Eckerd’s Drug Stores that’s going to last until November 3, that’s worth looking into. They’re selling Tussy Rich Cream (you know, that wonder ful night cream) at grand values. Really a saving. Then, too, they have a non-sticky hand cream containing lanolin, by the Prim rose House, and it’s on sale, too. Of course Eckerd’s has Revlon’s new shade of lipstick and nail polish, “Fatal Apple,” and they also have a new shade of lip stick by DuBarry. it’s called “Clarion.” Sounds exciting, doesn’t it? Hey! You Freshmen! Do you know where you can buy any thing in the way of school sup plies that you want? Well, if you’ve asked any upperclassman where you can get such articles as pencils, notebooks, paper, etc.. I’ll bet you anything that they immediately said, “Pound and Moore’s, of course.” Honestly, you can get a good quality of almost anything there. Just try it and you’ll see. Sorority girls and all others who have to plan parties and feeds and such, take notice! When you want something extra special and dif ferent for your party, go down to Lentz Grocery Store on Tryon, and you’ll find a complete line of fancy imported goodies. Why be monotonous in your food? Have something really different for a change. Here’s something you’ll really be interested in. Down at Belk’s they have some darling two-piece classic suits, in either cardigan or lapel style comfortably fitting jackets sizes 10 to 20. They come in blue, pink, brown, grey, and black. These are great for cam pus and classroom wear, and will make excellent companions for all fall and winter long. Go down and see them for yourself. I’m sure you’ll want one. Well, girls, I’ve enjoyed my lit tle visit with you, and I hope you can use the information I’ve given you to good advantage. Be good, buy wisely, and I’ll see you next issue!
