February 11, 1948 QUEENS BLUES Page 3 VBIC a«y MISS PALMER King’s Decree ; !'■' ast? Hear ye! Hear Ye! The crier cries the same old lines; except for these: Will you be our Valen tines? All is swell! All is swell! His Majesty humbly apologizes for the absence of his literary me- anderings in the last edition. How ever, it was unavoidable; for being of royal blood and ruler by divine right, I was obligated to accept th^ invitation to attend the Royal Wed ding of Princess Elizabeth and Lt. Philip Mountbatten. Since you have already read the newspaper accounts and have seen the newsreels, anything I might say about it would be redundant. I would like to say the gifts were beautiful, especially the one which I presented to the handsome young couple. Since it seemed traditional to give a product of one’s own handicraft, I gave my pride and joy—a basket which I wove to get my D.D.T. in Basketweaving at good old Podunk U. It was a beau tiful thing; its colors perfect—sick green blended with a not-too-bright purple. I gave it up with tear-stained cheeks, but I was happy when I heard the Princess say with all force—kind of emotional like; “What a catastrophe!” Even though she got her words mixed, I was thrilled; more so, when the Consort said, “Catastrophe is not the w^rd for it.” I knew he was a man of integrity. But I must write of more impor tant things, for I hear good news. Even though spring will be a little late this year, the thoughts of the King’s Men have turned to fancy— flesh and fancy. In other words, the saps have begun to flow gently; they murmur like babbling brooks about the girls of their dreams. They have chosen their Queens of Queens.
