PAGE FOUR THE EARLY BIRD SEPT.-OCT.-NOV. CLASS NEWS (Continued From Page Three) work very much. We have a science corner in our classroom. We have collected pine cones, bird nests, acorns, and walnuts. We are now studying about the turtle. His name is joe. He be longs to the Reptile Family. He is a swimming turtle. He eats earth worms, hamburger, and vegetables. He travels around in the classroom daily for exercise. We are decorating oiu: class room with autumn leaves, pump kins, and black cats. We are studying October poems, reading stories about Witches, pumpkins and Owls. Reporter Lizzie Hunt FOURTH GRADE SECTION 4H Mrs. F. J. Hawley, Teacher We are trying very hard to make this our very best school year. I am sure with the class officers that we have, that this will be one of our best years. Our officers are as follows: Steven Downey, President Katheleen Cheatam, Secretary; Grace Harris, Treasurer The class is very much in terested in our science table. Each child has tried to bring something of interest for the science table which we will study this month. Our teacher, Mrs. F. J. Hawley, is very much interested in our health and our safety. These are some of the rules that we have learned and try to keep everyday. 1. Go to bed early 2. Play out of doors 3. Drink plenty of milk 4. Eat plenty of vegetables 5. Brush your teeth everyday 6. Sunshine makes healthy bodies. Reporter Ella Mallory FIFTH GRADE SECTION 5J Mrs. O. Johnson, Teacher Our class is getting on toward a good start. We have organized our class officers. They are as follows: Catherine Thorpe, President; Mary B. Hicks, Vice-President; James M. Taborn, Secretary; Barbara J. Mallory, Assistant Secretary; Marion Moore, Trea surer; Leon Mayers, Chairman of Social Committee; Mary Evans, Chairman of Program Committee Reporter Mary B. Hicks FIFTH GRADE SECTION 5M Mrs. F. P. Moss, Teacher The fifth grade was organized in October. The officers are as follows: Eddie Bullock, Presi dent; Verline Thornton,' Vice- President; Donnell Parker, Sec retary; Deloris Davis, Assistant Secretary; Jessie M. Banks, Treasurer; Jewline Downey, Chairman of Social Committee; Annie M. Webb, Chairman of Program Committee; Ethel Jef fers, Chairman of Sick Commit tee. Through this organization, the fifth grade has pledged to comply with all rules and regu lations of the school thereby, helping to make the program a success. Reporter Verline Thornton FIFTH GRADE SECTION 5C Mrs. M. J. Cureton, Teacher Our classroom work has been fun throughout our first two months of school. We had much fun building a terrarium plant ing flowers, and hunting moss from the woods. We started about plants while doing this project and how to care for those which grow in the house. We have also started a few dish gardens. We have started our mural showing the beginning of A- merica. Our poem for the month was “Book Pals” about which we are planning a play. Reporter Douglas Elkerson FIFTH GRADE SECTION 5F Miss Betty Jo Foster, Teacher Early in the year our class be came organized. The following officers were elected: President, Harold Hunt; Vice-President, Jacqueline Walton; Secretary Alice Baskerville; Assistant Secretary, Judith Cotton; Treas urer, Alfred Bagby. Our class has done many in teresting things. We are trying to make things pleasant for ev eryone at our school. We are getting settled in our new classroom. We are very proud of it. We are beginning to do different things such as making the science shelf, devel oping our Transportation Unit, and studying various plants. Our class takes an active part in all school activities. Our stu dent council representatives are Alfred Bagby and Alice Basker ville. One of our aims for the year is to improve ourselves in everyway, and we do hope by improving ourselves, we can then help others. Alfred Bagby, Reporter SIXTH GRADE, SECTION 6B Mrs. J. C. Baptiste, Teacher The class in room 11 has 43 boys and girls. Our class work is coming along nicely. We have enjoyed most of all our science work. With the aid of our teacher, we are making a study of the “Wild Life of North Carolina”. Thomas Reeding, who is one of our classroom mates partici pated in the Granville County Junior Cattlp Show, He also par ticipated in the Durham County Junior Cattle Show. He won three blue ribbons of which we are very proud. Gloria Holman, Reporter SIXTH GRADE, SECTION 6G Mrs. B. B. Green, Teacher In the 6th grade class there are 18 boys and 21 girls. Our teacher is Mrs. B. B. Green. We have organized our class so that we may do good work. Oup class officers are as fol lows: President, Gloria Burton; Vice President, Jacquelyn Hunt; Secretary, Barbara Anderson; Treasurer, Rosa Allen. The clubs have' organized their officers too. We have a Science Club, A Hobby Club, and a Reading Club. Lexie Terry is chairman of the Hobby Club, Elijah Strater is president of the Science Club and Annie Powell is president of the Reading Club. We have planned a number of activities which we are sure we shall enjoy doing with the help of the teacher. We shall tell more about our work the next time. Magnolia Cheatam, Reporter SIXTH GRADE, SECTION 6R Mrs, B. B. Redding, Teacher Our class is most interesting and we are delighted with our Language Arts activities. Just now in Language Arts we are writing our presentation to be made in assembly. In Health, we have found the average income for the families of our class and we are planning low cost means based on the Seven Basic Food Groups. This nutrition business surely is important; We surprised Mrs. Redding with a birthday party, Novem ber 7, and we also gave her some very nice gift. We had a great time! Mr, J. H. Lucas had a birthday the same day and we sent him a card with pipes and bedroom shoes and all. Our class officers are: President, Ronald Gregory; Vice-President, Brenda Ander son; Secretary, Gerlena Green; Assistant Secretary, Annie Pas- chall; Treasurer, Mabel Hicks. Annie Paschall, Reporter SIXTH GRADE, SECTION 6G Mr. C. E. Gregory, Teacher The sixth grades were divided, and the 6G was organized. They are as follows. President, Julia Webb; Vice President, Alice Daniels; Secre tary, Calvin Downey, Assistant Secretary, William Fields Treasurer, Millard Allen. The following committees were chosen: Program Committee: Nettie M. Wilkerson, Doris J. Russel, Fred Wright, Edward Thornton, Alfred Wortham, Social Com mittee, Louis M. Dunbar, Sam uel Steed and Louis Henderson. We are hoping this year will be one of grand success under our new teacher, Mr. Gregory. Fred Wright, Reporter SEVENTH GRADE, SECTION 7H Miss L, Q. Hamme, Teacher This month we are studying about Thanksgiving which deals with Indian Life. Our harvest table represents the gifts of the Indians to America. On election da y w G talked about Eisenhower and Steven son. The day after election we read and discussed from the newspaper the results of the election. Our class organized it’s offi cers. They are as follows: President, Barbara Wortham; Vice-President, Sherly Lewis Secretary, Mildred Norman; Assistant Secretary, G r a c i e Cheatam; Treasurer; Joyce Ly on. Margaret Taylor, Reporter SEVENTH GRADE, SECTION 7W Mrs. S. R. Wilson, Teacher Our class has organized its officers. They are as follows: President, Helen Morgan; Vice-President, Gloria Puryear; Treasurer, Elvin Clayton. Deloris Norman, Reporter SEVENTH GRADE, SECTION 7G ^ Mrs. M. C. Goode, Teacher The 7G class would like to re port' a sketch of news in their room. We are doing nicely in class work. The art teacher Miss Spivey comes to see us every three weeks in art.
