The Cornish have a brotherly motto, “One and All”; and their miners, when they come up from deep down, cry out to others who work in the light of day, “What Cheer!” It shows the hardy spirit of the men who toil in danger and in the dark. We think we live in terrible times, and whether we shall “pass through” them no man can say; though some do fear that we are at world’s end. I am led, rather, to think that our God is aware of what we fear, and has His own great plan to deliver us out of it, if we will. I find cheer in the orderliness of God’s world; not just of the stars or chemical reactions, but in the nature He planted in man. Thank God, He made us like the Prodigal to sicken both of riotous living and feeding swine. He lets our folly run out just so long— and then we are at the end of our rope. We come to ourselves by repentance that we may come home to Him. Do you feel it shameful for men to repent? Well, sinners are just that when they turn their backs on a loving Father. Jesus never called it shameful and cowardly to turn again to Him! So instead of dreading the Atom Bomb—though it is a fright ful alternative—why should we not pluck up heart and see that this is the Gospel’s day and pro claim Christ joyfully and with burning zeal? I believe this world will last out the needs of the Gos pel which “first must be preached to all nations”—if we preach it! Working With Friends Waddell Is Club Guest After deciding that your job is important and makes life easier for someone else another way to get a kick out of your job is to make improvements. It does not take a great idea, it is the series of little ideas that add up to time savers and improvements. The | results make the job easier for you and your friends as well as giving a great deal of satisfaction to the originator. The fellows who suggested rubber bumper guards for the looms to prevent carrier breakage, and the improved method of handling warps received much satisfaction from these accomplishments. They are proud of the idea and happy that they contributed something extra. You, too, might have an idea ^or the suggestion box that would help. For instance, a method to keep the cloth from wrinkling as it is rolled or an aid in loading o) Racking materials or any number of helpful ideas. Ihey do not have to be revolutionary. Another way to get a kick out of your job is to like your fellow workers. People are pretty much the same no matter where you work. If you fight them, growl and make it tough for the other person, he is likely to do the same for you. On the other hand, a friendly smile and a cheerful attitude is always welcomed. “Smile and the world smiles with you. Weep and you weep alone.” When you help someone else and he helps you the atmosphere of good fellowship spreads throughout your work area. You are bound to feel better and get real enjoyment from your work. When you get a kick out of your job, you feel better, you live longer, you do a better job, and you enjoy more of the pleasures of life. (to every man who believes) that God reigns, our Almighty Heavenly Father! That His mercy endures forever! That in love He will save His children! Tell men that. Tell them in the face of all their skepticism, cynicism and doubt. Don’t you know that for all their protest they are whistling to keep up their spirits in the dark.—Forward-Day by Day.
