Send News for the September Issue to Personnel Office before Sept. 8. Devotional Thoughts In St. Matthew’s Gospel we have an interesting parable of our Lord recorder which has a poig nant, simple message for all of us. A man had two sons. He asked both of them to go to work in the vineyard. One said, “I go, SU” but he did not go. The other said, not too politely, that he would not go. In the final essence the one who was impolite, curt and boorish went and the polite, good mtentioned, one did not go. Jesus then asked a searching question, ‘■‘Which did the will of the fath er?” . . . Now he was speaking to the Pharisees. Only the fact that He had for them an urgent message and was trying to shock them out of their indifference en abled Him to speak so bluntly as He does in the closing statement of the Parable when He says “The Publicans and Harlots go into the kingdom before you” . . . Now if we were to point out the Phari sees of our day, their counterpart would have to be some of us good church people. The Pharisees never missed a service. They par ticipated in all the prayer hours. The dictates of Jesus are like beams of light. We may quarrel about His rightful name. But when we look at Him there is no doubt about how we ought to live. We hear the high call, “Come, go pray today.” But the hard world shuts us in and we do not pray. Mean while some outcast repents in dust and ashes an in a prayer that we wouldn’t recognize throws him self on divine mercy and is Justi fied. Rev.
