NOVEMBER, 1950 Employees Join Crusade For Freedom The Crusade For Freedom cam paign was launched last Labor Day and ran through October 16. It was organized to “enlist millions of Americans in the job of step ping up our world propaganda ‘campaign of truth’ to counter the false propaganda of Communism.” Freedom Scrolls were signed throughout the United States and newspaper advertisements were published, endorsed by such per sons as Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, General Eisenhower and Cardinal Spellman. Friday, October 27, Freedom Scrolls were available in all the departments at Caromount and Wilson so that each employee Would have the opportunity to sign one and to make a donation of love for Americanism to aid in combatting Communism. The em ployees received the Scrolls with enthusiasm; they signed their names and made donations to fur ther the Crusade for Freedom. When General Dwight D. Eisen hower opened the Crusade for Freedom on a radio broadcast, he Said, “This is a campaign spon sored by private American citizens to fight the big lie with the big truth. We need powerful radio stations abroad, operated without Governorment restrictions, to tell m strong and honest language ‘ibout the decency and essential fairness of democracy.” The Caromount and Wilson Di- '^isions will close for Thanksgiving ^>n Thursday, November 23rd. The Dyeing and Finishing De partments will resume operations Monday, November 27th, at 6:00 m. The Weaving Departments at both Rocky Mount and Wilson 'vill resume operations Friday, November 24th, at 6:00 a. m. Let us all take the opportunity *^11 this Day of Thanksgiving to "^ffer our thanks for all the good things we enjoy and the freedom 'vhich is ours in this wonderful Country we live in. Knowledge is our strength along the way, Schools and libraries galore are free. Go to any church you choose to pray, In your home have full security. Vote in freedom, bank in any bank. It’s your sacred duty and your right, Now for all these blessings, let’s all thank God, and swear to guard them with our might. Attends Seminar Wahab Edwards, mill comp troller, attended a three day sem inar at the Biltmore Hotel in New York the second week in October. This seminar was conducted by the American Economic Founda tion which was founded in 1939 and whose program has been to translate the economic facts of life into simple arithmetic and one- meaning words and then to pack age them for use in employee edu cational programs. By such trans lation the foundation has demon strated that there is little wrong with America’s industrial relations that facts, presented intelligently, cannot cure. Mr. Edwards has been conduct ing a training course for the super visors at Caromount at at series of luncheon meetings in the Caro mount Field House. Benson will speak November 26 on “The World’s Greatest Asset.” Dr. George S. Benson is President of Harding College in Arkansas and spent eleven years doing mission ary work in China. 8. DeWitt Emery, on December 3, will answer for us the question, “Are We Destroying Ourselves From Within.” He is President and Founder of the National Small Businessmen’s Association, an or- ganiation established to give the little man in business an oppor tunity to voice his opinion in na tional affairs. 9. Cecil Palmer, on December 10, will tell us about “British So cialism.” He is a British author and publisher. Mr. Palmer is visit ing in the United States in an at tempt to warn our people of our many pitfalls and of the mistakes his country has made. 10. Wallace Bennett will speak to us December 17 on “Real Se curity.” He is a prominent lay member of the Mormon Church and a well known industrialist. Last year he was elected President of the National Association of Manufacturers. 11. Ruth Alexander is going to speak to us on “Socialism” on De- (Continued on Page Four) Band Visits Festival The Caromount Hillbillies are gaining fame over a wide area having just recently performed at the Peanut Festival in Roanoke Rapids, N. C. The festival held on Wednes day, November 8, included an all day program. One of the features was the hillbilly band contest which attracted participants from a wide area. Although they did not take any of the prize money the Caromount men reported a very enjoyable time. Those attending were: Red Ferrell, electric guitarist and har monica player; Red Sessoms, gui tarist;; Jack Thomas, guitarist and harmonica player; Clyde Evans, guitarist; Kinchen Joyner, banjo picker; Percy Joyner, gui tarist and soloist; and Walter Greenman, accordionist and man ager.
