The Christmas Savings Plan was begun early in 1947 through | arrangements with Planters Na- j tional Bank and Trust Co. i The idea is to encourage thrift i and to provide through small i weekly payroll deductions a siz-1 able sum for the inevitable Christ- ! mas shopping. ' The employees of Caromount and Wilson like the plan. During i the first year of its operation 316 ‘ employees were enrolled .In 1948 the number increasd to 361, the total checks amounting to $48,- 571.15. In 1949 the checks total led almost twice the amount of 1948. Caromount and Wilson em ployees received $83,525.50. At Caromount 382 employees parti cipated, the checks totalling $76,- 315.25. In Wilson 41 workers re ceived $7,210.25. This year, in 1950, 368 Caro mount employees received $81,- 967.00;; and 35 Wilson em ployees were paid $7,315.00. The Night Before Christmas Very shortly we will be in the midst of another Christmas Sea son. Let us examine our accom plishments during the year. 1950 has been a better year for us than Was 1949. Due to operating effi ciencies, along with much better Volume, the Company will show a profit this year instead of last year’s loss. Your fine cooperation, your loy alty and your teamwork, have made the most important contri bution to our success. It makes me very proud to head such a fine group of Americans. Mr. Suessmuth stated, “I am pleased indeed to announce to all of you that the Company will pay a Christmas bonus this year.” Bonus checks will be distributed on Friday, December 22nd, and will be received by all employees who have had continuous service with the company prior to Janu ary 1, 1950 Employees who began their employment after December 31, 1949, must have five years or more continuous service prior to De cember 1st of the year in which the Christmas Bonus is given in order to receive it. Employees Liberal To Community Chest The employees of the Caro mount and Wilson Divisions with a feeling of Community responsi bility dipped into their pockets for the largest Community Chest con tribution ever made by them. Following the recommended plan each department was can vassed by a team composed of their fellow workers. The results were unusually good and the con tributions for this year more than doubled those for last year. Department solicitors and the amount contributed by each de partment are listed: Warping — Herman Allen collected $29.00; Weaving — Miss Johnnie Bell Harris, Mrs. Doris Satterfield, Mrs. Nannie Dickens, Mrs Lina Clark, Mrs. Rebecca Phelps, Les lie Alexander, Herbert Denson, Mrs. Myrtle Oakley, Ed Raper, Frank Worrell, Miss Lessie Bow den, Willie Harper, Wheeler Mod- lin, Frank Shelton, James Long, William Trevathan, Garland Rose and Raymond Eason collected $316.55;; Raw Good and Mend- (Continued on Page Two) Harper Heads Council The Eastern Carolina Safety Council held its last meeting of 1950 in Rocky Mount at the Edge- mont School, Friday night, De cember 1 at 7:30 P. M. I The address of welcome was ; given by Roy Williamson, City Manager. After a few announce ments, an Election of Officers for ! 1951 was held. Those elected were: George Harper, Chairman, Sidney Blumenthal and Co. Inc.; Frank Williams, Jr., Vice Chairman, Pat terson Mills Company, Roanoke Rapids, N. C.; W. L. Painter, Secretary, Hart Mills, Tarboro, N. C.; and B. F. Ryals, Trea surer, Rosemary Manufacturing Company, Roanoke Rapids, N. C. The Caromount Hillbilly Band furnished entertainment for the group.
