Devotional Thoughts New Beginnings Life is made up of new begin nings. What a chance, therefore, awaits us all this new year to begin again^—“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things that are before.” All last year’s failures and mistakes are behind us, and a fresh chance lies before us all. We can all do better. Be a bit more thoughtful. Be more on the alert for opportuni ties of helpfulness. Be more dili gent in our tasks. Be more toler ant in our outlook. As you begin this new year lift up your hearts because of the chance it has brought to you to go out, and, in spite of all your past failures and unworthiness justify yourself in the sight of God and man. There fore greet the new year with hope, expectancy and confidence. But remember this curious but practi cal fact.—^\^%at we seek for our selves will be loss; what we try to do for other people will we gain. “New every morning is the love Our wakening and uprising prove; Through sleep and darkness safely brought, Restored to life and power and thought.” Life and power and thought! That’s what we really need, isn’t it? Power to handle our work bravely, steadily, efficiently. Pow er to deal with irksome and irri tating things — and even irri tating people. Power to serve a cause with whole-hearted devo tion. Power to plod on gallantly in the hazardous and bewilding time, when many of us have all sorts of private anxieties, and we’re not always feeling up to The Caromount News births Charles Cooper Nelms Mr. and Mrs. David R. While there they visited the city’s Christmas tree which is said to be the largest live Christmas tree in the world. Dyehouse Party On December 23, 1950 the sec ond shift of the Dyehouse and of the Finishing Department pounded Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Griffin. Charlie Griffin has been out sick for a long time and the employees wanted to remember him at Christ mas. They asked Mr. Griffin to come down to the mill that day to a barbecue supper. Everyone had a fine time and enjoyed seeing Mr. Griffin getting along so well. the mark. Power to be the kind of men and women we ought to be. Long ago, a man cried out, ! “Through Jesus Christ that j strengthened men, 1 am able for j anything.” That sounds like a | vain boast. It was, in fact, a testi- j mony, full of amazement to the j man who made it. He had hap pened upon a great discovery. Jesus Christ is real; He makes men and women adequate for life; the Invisible Saviour is a source of boundless energy to those who love him. Well, I’m going to try out during the year ahead. Prayer: 0 Lord Christ, help us to play the man; help us, when we may forget all about Thee; help us, even now, to win the smile of Thy approval. Amen. Rev. Clarence E.
