Page Four Millard Frazier Leonard, was born January 15, 1915 in Shallote, North Carolina in Brunswick County, the son of Mrs. Orra Long Leonard and Franklin Agusta Leonard. When he was about six years old, his family moved to Rocky Mount, where he went to the city schools. At the age of 15 years the Leonards moved to Philadelphia, Pa. and there Millard worked on a Dredge boat for three years. He then came back to Rocky Mount and began his work at Caromounc March 3, 1933 learning to weave. Millard was married to the for mer Miss Evelyn Odell Nelms, De cember 23, 1931. They have three children: Phyliss Ann, 18 years; Dorothy, 15 years; and Marjorie, 13 years. Millard was transferred to Wil son division in 1941, and he is still working there on the second shift. Mrs. Leonard was a weaver at the Wilson Division until three years ago when she had to stop due to ill health. Phyliss, his old est daughter, was a learner in Wil son Weaving until the layoff, Millard and his family are very active in church work and they are affiliated with the Church of God in Wilson, N. C. The Leon ards own a home at 1005 Indus trial Avenue in Wilson. Home From Service Two Caromount Servicemen have completed their tour of duty and have resumed their work at Caromount. Corporal Herman Roberson re turned on August 13, 1951, hav ing served with an Escort Guard Company in Korea. Herman was The Caromount News AUGUST, 1951 Mending Dept To Currituck Mr. and Mrs. Knox Ellis and Mr. and Mrs. Doc Lancaster went to Currituck fishing recently. New Grandbaby Mrs. Janna Gupton has been mighty busy with the addition of a new grandaughter in the house. Phyllis Gupton was born July 20, 1951, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ray Gupton. Mr. Gupton returned August 8 from Japan where he had been serv ing as boatswain mate on the Ajax. Mr. and Mrs. Grover Gupton and family have returned to Fort Handcock, N. J. after spending three weeks with their parents here. Birthdays Mrs. Theresia Perdue and her mother, Mrs. Baines, celebrated their birthdays, July 29, at the Caromount Field House where they enjoyed a regular birthday supper. There were about 45 persons pres ent to celebrate with them, and they had a wonderful time. Both Mrs. Perdue and Mrs. Baines re ceived many lovely and useful gifts. Improving We are glad to report that Mrs. Ernest Nelms is doing nicely af ter a major operation. We hope that she will continue to improve. Recent Illness V. P. Perdue, husband of Mrs. Vata Lou Perdue, has been hos pitalized recently. We hope that he is much better now. Entertain At Shower On August 4, Mrs. Ruth Reid and Mrs. Maud Ward were hos tesses at a shower for Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Williams at the Caro mount Field House. Party cakes, salted nuts, and iced drinks were served to about 15 persons. Games and contests were enjoyed by the crowd during the evening, and the bride and groom received many gifts. Mrs. Williams is the former Miss Mae Hill. Overseas Duty S/Sgt. Charles H. Hughes, who was stationed at Maxwell Field, Montgomery, Alabama, has been called to Fort Stoneman, Califor nia for overseas duty in Korea during the last severe winter and states that he is glad to be back. T/Sgt. Irvin Lee Young receiv ed his discharge on August 24th and is now ready to go to work. Irvin, who has more than eight years with the Air Force, thought about staying in but decided in favor of civilian life. He spent his last tour of duty as a supply super visor at the Brookley Air Force Base, Mobile, Alabama. Our Service Men Rosser Lee Bakes (above) left his work in the Mnishing Department August 10, 1951 when Uncle Sam called him in- ’ to the United States Army. Lester G. Vick Lester Vick wrote that he had just finished a very interesting tour of duty, and that he had re ceived his vacation check. His health is good and he hopes the same for everyone at Caromount. He says he is always glad to re ceive a letter from anyone back here, and that he is looking for ward to getting back himself some day. His address is Lester G. Vick ADE 2, V. Cotty Thompson From Waukegan, Illinois, Cotty Thompson writes that he is looking forward to the 21st of September when he hopes to have a 10 day leave to come home and see every one. C., Great Lakes, Ill., Bks. 305, Sec. 2. Jim Jenkins Jim Jenkins wrote expressing his appreciation for his vacation check. He said it really looked good to a Private.
