JANUARY, 1952 CAA Provides Safety Matches For Employees A few months ago the Caro mount Athletic Association Board of Directors authorized the pur chase of a supply of book matches designed to promote safety. These natch folders are now being dis- ributed with the payroll and in he cafeteria. It is the hope of the C. A. A. ’oard and the Management that f lese matches will serve as timely % minders that it pays to work fely. Each booklet contains -^^enty matches which will serve ai. twenty reminders of the safety message on each match folder. Six different designs will be dis tributed which feature: No Horse play; Good Housekeeping is good safety; Report all injuries at once; It’s not what you lift but how that Counts; If you’re not sure ask questions; and Safe practice is your best protection. Each of the folders carry the re minder that the ABC of safety is Always Be Careful. The safety record for Caro mount and Wilson is very good for 1951. It will require the whole hearted support of everyone to Uiake it even better in 1952. The state representatives have requested that everyone use the ! blank mailed to you in filing your ' state returns, since your name is i ou this blank. New Year’s Message With the coining of the New Year, I’m sure that most of us have made some New Year’s resolution in accordance with a long established custom. I can think of no better reso lution than to examine every day the I'eal importance of liv ing in a free America so that we will become more aware of oiii* many personal freedoms and guard them more faith fully. You have leiidered faithful service to the company during tlie past year and I know we can look foi'ward to the same dependable performance this year, and with this thought 1 extend to you nil my sincere wish for a Happy New Year. H. 8uessniuth Scouts Birthday Party Boy Scout Troop 113 celebrat ed its seventh Anniversary with a special birthday meeting held in the Caromount Field House on Tuesday, December 18, 1952, at 7:30 p. m. This troop officially en tered the Rocky Mount Scout Council when its installation cere mony was conducted on December 13, 1944. The parents of the Scouts, Troop Ciommitteemen, and local Scout Executives were invited to be the guests of the Troop for their party. A report was given on 1951 activities; then the Scouts had some song skits and played some games. After this refresh- iuents were served. Free Insurance Pays $16,182 In Benefits At Wilson and Caromount 211 employees have benefited from our group insurance plan during 1951, with a total of $16,182.31 being paid out for insurance claims. This insurance coverage is provided by the company free of cost to the employees. There were 84 claims for em ployee hositpalizatio^i and 100 claims for hospitalization of de pendents. For these claims hospi talization benefit checks amounted to $8691.60. 4 here were 60 claims for sur gical benefits. A total of $1687.71 was paid for surgery. Forty nine claims were made for Medical Ex pense Benefits and a total of $499 was received for medical pay ments. Weekly sickness benefits totaled $3804.00 for 79 employees. There was one death claim in the amount of $750.00 This was an accidental death which resulted in an addi tional $750.00 making a total of $1500.00. The entire cost of this insurance plan is j)aid by the company and during 1951 the premiums for this plan amounted to $30,852.07. Anyone having questions about their insurance coverage should contact the Personnel Office. Ten Dollar Cash Prize For Slogan Contest Employees of the Caromount and Wilson Division are invited to enter a Safety Slogan Contest. The winner will receive a $10.00 cash prize. Slogans entered in this contest must not be more than 10 words in length. They will be judged on originality and useful ness in preventing accidents at the Caromount and Wilson Divisions. They must be turned in to the Per sonnel Office before 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 1. Employees may submit as many’ entries as they like; however, each slogan must be submitted on a separate blank.
