In the above picture Progi*am Director Ray Wilkinson is shown interviewing Hai*ry Walker (Engineering). Others in the picture are Mrs. Julia Williams (Mnal Examining); ]Mrs. Ruth Haskin (Finishing); and Mrs. Claudie Dougiitie (Mending). 625 Caromount employees received a total of $36,848.40. 81 Wilson employees received ,$5,031.20. Roy Pittman Roy Pittman, 45, Material Handler in the Receiving Depart- hient at the Caromount Division of Sidney Blumenthal & Co. Inc., died unexpectedly of a Cerebral Hemorrhage, Monday morning, December 31, 1951 after a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Friendship Baptist Church on the Tarboro Highway at 2 P.M. January 3, 1952. The Hev. Scott was in charge of the funeral, assisted by the Reverends Foster, Spice, Scott and Rand. Burial was in the Rocky Mount Colored Cemetary. Suvivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillie Pittman of the home; one son, Roy Pittman, Jr. (Engineer ing Department I ; three daughters. Miss Mary Bell Pittman of the home; Mrs. Clara Pittman Browm of Tarboro, and Mrs. James Davis of Rocky Mount, wife of James Davis (Engineering). Roy Pittman was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Pittman. During the years from January 17, 1946 until his death, that Roy Pittman served as a Material Handler in the Caromount Re ceiving Department, he gained the admiration and respect of his luany friends there. He will be re- Uiemebered for his cheerful dis position and unselfish considera tion of othet's. He will likewise be missed for a dilligent performance of his duty. Roy Pittman s death Came as a great shock; and it will he a loss to many people- Office Chat Miss Dot Sturtevant (Planning) got a radio for her car for Christ mas. Mr. and Mrs. John Dunkerly (Inspector) went to Florida for the holidays. Jack MacRae got a new cook hock from Santa. We are all sorry to have Miss Neilie Davis, Weaving Secretary, leave us. Miss Mary Alice Treva- than was transferred to this job frcm the Planning Department; and Miss Anna Carpenter accept ed the Planning job. Miss Jane Coley, Final Exam- ing Secretary, left to go to Wash ington, D. C., to work. Mrs. Anne Spruce has filled this vancy. Miss Sybil Lanier, Teletype Op erator in the Shipping Department left to go to Washington, D. C., to wcrk and was replaced by Mrs. Florine Reim. There is a new teletype tube in the office which runs to the Ship- inpg Office and vice versa. E. H. “Sully” Sullivan looked in the other day and a teletype flew out and almost choked him to death. Mrs. Carolyn Hardy’s hus band is joining the United States Coast Guard and Avill report to Camp May, New Jersey, soon. Walter Greenman (Finishing) was hospitalized at Memorial Hos pital recently for several days. Miss Doris Jean Hardy (Per sonnel) got a mighty pretty dia mond ring during Christmas. The lucky fellow is Walter Raynor. Miss Frances English has join ed the Accounting Department. News From Mending Out Sick Mrs. Tellie Coley was out sick for some time due to illness during the Christmas Holidays. She is get ting along fine and is back at work now. To Florida Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Walker (Mending) spent the holidays in Tampa and St Petersburg, Flori da, visiting relatives. They were accompanied by Harry Walker I Engineering) and Mrs. Lena Walker (Weaving), his parents; and they all enjoyed the trip. Har ry said it was wonderful country, and that he would like to spend the rest of his life there for every thing was so cheap. In Fayetteville Smokey Taylor (Raw Yarn Storage) and Mrs. Ruth Taylor went to Fayetteville during the holidays and had a very pleasant time visiting relatives. At Kings Mountain Mr. and Mrs. A1 Inscoe spent a weekend at Kings Mountain visit ing Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hender son. Two men were there who were in service with Al. New Hope Red Sessoms and family spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Williams at New Hope. Msit Elected To Office Hiawatha Council No. 50, de gree of Pocahontas, has elected Mrs. Jean Winbon (Weaving De partment ) to head that organiza tion as Pocahontas for the next six months. Other officers elected c;t the meeting, were Earle Wilson, Wen- onah; Marion Robinson, Pow hatan; Martha Carson, (Weaving Department) keeper of the rec ords and Gertrude Wheeless, col lector of Wampum. Rochelle Robinson, council dep uty, gave the newly elected offi cers their pledge of honor. Committee members will be elected at the next regular meet ing. Mrs. Janna Gupton (Mending Department) was welcomed into the council. She was transferred from the Greenville council. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wor rell spent Christmas Day with-Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Rowe. Wilson , Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Pope went to Wilson during the holidays to visit many friends and relatives. Visited Rrother Mrs. Nina Rogers spent her holidays with her brother who was at the Woodard-Herring Hospital. New Faces There are some new faces among us. Oscar Ellis is working with Charlie Luper, taking David Weaver’s place. David is now on first shift. Oscar Ellis worked in the Weaving Department years ago but has been farming since then. He lives at 20(5 McDerman Street. W- B, Askew is on first shift in ,the Mending and Raw Goods De partment. He lives at Dortches. New Graud.soii Mrs. Theresia Perdue has a new grandson, William Gilbert O’Neal, born January 8th to Mr. and Mrs. William O’Neal. Mrs. O’Neal is the former Miss Mavis Perdue.
