The engineers are from Germany’s Ruhr Valley and are directors of an association ef German Safety Engineers. Highest Scouting Award Won By Troop 113 at V' r It tJ ii', d lit ce- l€ It 1) 11' it' tt r' if it fwelve Boy Scouts of Caro- 'Hount’s Troop 113 gathered at |heir Scout Cabin early April to make ready for the trip ‘JVer to Tarboro, the scene of this gears’ East Carolina Camporee. Arriving at the Tarboro Air- Pf^rt the scouts pitched their tents ^ffd made camp ready to parti- 'fpate in the great Scouting event. Ihere were 3,000 scouts and ^couters on hand to compete for honors. Troop 113 entered two pa trols in the competition and recei ved the highest awards possible, a blue ribbon for each patrol. The Troop al so received a cov eted gold ribbon for having 80% of their total scouts participating. Having enjoyed one of the best Camporees ever, due to the fine weather and those two blue ribbons, our Scouts, tired but happy, packed their belongings and returned to their homes, Sun day, April 19th. Manager At U. S. Chamber Meeting Resident Manager E. H. Suess- muth attended the 41st Annual United States Chamber of Com merce meeting at the Hotel Stat- ler in Washington, D. C. from April 27th through April 29th, as a representative from the Rocky Mount Chamber of Commerce. Others who attended from Rocky Mount were Jasper Cummings and Graham, Dozier, President and Secretary respectively of the Rocky Mount Chamber of Com merce. The meeting was attended by approximately 2,500 businessmen and Chamber of Commerce execu tives representing a cross section of the entire United States. There were many noted speakers, in cluding Roger M. Kyes, Deputy Secretary of Defense; Ezra T. Benson, Secretary of Agriculture; Douglas McKay, Secretary of In terior; Sinclair Weeks, Secretary of Commerce, and many import ant businessmen from all walks of life. President Dwight D. Eisen hower was present at the annual banquet which climaxed the meet ing, and he was given a most enthusiastic reception. He ex tended his greetings and spoke informally to those present and gave his solemn promise that every effort would be made to run the government on a business-like basis. Labor Depts Gives Award To Caromount On Tuesday, April 21, 1953 the Caromount Division of Sid ney Blumenthal & Co., Inc., re ceived its third consecutive Safe ty Award presented by the Unit ed States and North Carolina De partments of Labor. This award was made at a luncheon sponsor ed by the Wilson Chamber of Commerce. Forty-nine firms from Nash, Edgecombe, and Wilson Counties received these awards. George Harper and “Tiny” Sut ton represented the Caromount and Wilson Divisions. In presenting the awards Com missioner of Labor Shuford point ed out that firms receiving the (Continued on Page Six) 10 Hour Course Ends H. L. Jennerjohn of the North Carolina Industrial Commission, conducted another Safety School at the Caromount Field House the week of April 27-May 1, 1953. Morning and afternoon sessions were held. Representatives of the various Caromount Departments attended as well as representatives of the Rocky Mount Rayon Company. Members stated that they learned a great deal by attending these classes and Mr. Jennerjohn stat ed that they were two of the nic est groups he had ever taught. On Friday, certificates were pre sented to those completing the 10-hour course. The two groups are pictured on page six. Troop 113, sponsored by th Boree held on April 17 and 18tJ.
