Irvin Wesley Pittman is a Fold
er Helper in the Raw Goods
Storage Department at the Caro
mount Division of Sidney Blumen-
thal & Co. Inc. where he has been
employed since August 25, 1947.
Irvin was born July 22, 1921,
the fourth child of Mrs. Carey
Rosetta Neal Pittman and the late
Thomas Dalmor Pittman of Nash
County. He attended Rocky Mount
City Schools until he left to drive
a truck for a produce company.
He went from that to Rocky
Mount Mills where he worked
about four years. Then he drove
a cab for about a year previous
to coming to Caromount in 1947.
Irvin was married, January 28,
1941 to the former Miss Lenner
Jane Spivey, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. J. W. Spivey of Rocky
Mount. The Pittmans have two
children: a daughter, Linda Di
anne Pittman, 10 years of age
and a fourth grade student at
Williford School; and a son, Irvin
Ray Pittman, 8 years old and a
third grade pupil at Williford
School.
Irvin and his wife own their
home at Route 4, Rocky
Mount; and they are affiliated
with the Marvin Methodist Church
in Rocky Mount.
Irvin’s hobbies are fishing and
hunting, and he spends practically
all of his spare time either with
a dog and a gun, or with a fishing
pole. The Pittmans have a garden
and raise most of the vegetables
they use for their table.

George Boyette spent his vaca
tion in Virginia visiting relatives.
. . . Theolphious Barnes and fami
ly went to Georgia on their vaca
tion to visit relatives. Theolphious
reports the prettiest thing on the
trip was the water melon festival
and parade in Hampton, S. C.
Mrs. Madeline Privette and her
husband spent their vacation in
Norfolk, Virginia, and report a
wonderful time.
Mrs. Mae Dickerson and her
husband , made the rounds of
beaches during their vacation.
They visited Myrtle, Wrightsville,
Top Sail, Morehead, and Virginia
beaches.
Sam and Dot Langley traveled
over the Skyline Drive, went
through Luray Caverns and visit
ed the home of Thomas Jefferson,
Monticello. They also went to
White Lake and on Sunday, July
5, they attended a family reunion
in honor of Dot’s mother, Mrs.
M. H. Whitley, on Ler 61st birth
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Ward,
their daughter-in-law, Jerry, and
Mr. and Mrs. Gene Glover went
to Top Sail beach Saturday. . . Mr.
and Mrs. Garland Wells and fami
ly spent the weekend at Bay View
recently. . . Mr. and Mrs. Ray
mond Stith and Mr. and Mrs.
Charlie Ward w^ent fishing at
Sw'ansboro and caught 185 fish.
Mrs. Polly Davis has a new
frozen food locker and has moved
out in the country to fill it with
chickens and other good things
to eat. We were sorry to hear of
the accident her husband, Ivan,
had with the car. They were un
able to go anywhere on their va
cation.
Mrs. Mary Lena Whitley and
her husband went sight seeing in
Washington, D. C., New York, and
Harrisburg, Pa. They were called
home on Friday due to the illness
of Mr. Whitley’s father.
We are glad to have Mrs. Lucille
Barnes back with us. Lucille re
cently had an operation and was
out for a while. . . Mrs. Estelle
Grissom’s son, David, is ill in
Duke Hospital. We hope he will
soon be well . . . J. P. and Ruth
Whitehead visited relatives in Vir
ginia durin^ t Ar vacation . . .
Paul Coley and family spent part
of their vacation at Carolina
Beach . . • Lou and Ernest John
son visited Niagara Ealls while
on vacation. They said they
needed about another week for
such a trip,
Mrs. Doris Skinner and her
husband and two boys spent last
week at White f.ake. . . Rt»y Mes
ser visned relatives in Virginia

fishing at Ocear. View.

A letter to E. H. Sussmuth,
Resident Manager, of the South
ern Division of Sidney Blumen-
thal & Co., Inc., stated, “The Stu
dents, Sisters, and Parents of Our
Lady of Perpetual Help School
wish to express their gratitude
to the Caromount Mills for the
use of its park on May the twenty-
first. All had a wonderful time
and enjoyed themselves to the
utmost.” About one hundred
twenty-five students. Sisters, and
parents spent the day in the Caro
mount Recreation Park. They
played games, enjoyed softball,
and filled up on hot dogs, dough
nuts, and lemonade.
James Hamm and family visit
ed relatives in Virginia, Later in
the week they joined Mr. and Mrs.
Martin Raper on a fishing trip.
Mrs. Hazel Brown and daughter,
Jessie, accompanied Garland and
Geraldine Wells on a trip to Ashe
ville and Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
They were trying to find a cool
spot but Garland says it wasn’t
cool up there either. . . Mrs. Mil
dred Poston and her husband,
with Millard Leonard and his wife,
went to White Lake last week.
Later in the week Mildred and her
husband v i sited relatives in
Georgia and came back by Mrytle
Beach.
J. T. Bone and his family en
joyed a trip to Morehead last
week, . . Mary and Rastie Ferrell
spent some time at Minnesot Beach
last week where Mary caught her
first fish . . . Hubert Murphy and
family spent part of vacation
week in Portsmouth. . . Bennie
Dunn spent his vacation in Rox-
boro visiting his mother , . . Kath
leen and Eunice Sasser visited
White Lake during the vacation
week.
James Bissett’s son, Joseph Earl,
was home on leave from the Navy
during vacation week, so they en
joyed being at home together. . ..
Miss Myrtle Speight went fishing
ivith some friends at Mattamuskeet
Lake but the fish didn’t bite and
it was also hot dov.^! there, so she
journeyed home ar- .n;oyed the
“cool” weather here.

In Korea
Henry G. Ingram wrote recent
ly from Korea that he was on the
front lines over there. He said
they stay on the lines 10 days
and then go behind the lines for
10 days, and continue to rotate in
this way for 9 months. He hopes
to be home in about 8 months.
