NOVEMBER, 1953 THE LINCOLN ECHO PAGE THREE SPORTS CORNER Tigers Suffer Defeats The L.H.S. Tigers were stopped in their first two games of the season. ' The Lincoln High Tigers open ed the season with Rocky Mount and were defeated 0-19. The following week they were also defeated by their arch rivals “The Hornets” of Hillside High School; both were non-conference games. The third game of the season ended in a tie with Horton High 0-0. On October 2, the Tigers played Henderson in Henderson and were again defeated 0-12. The Tigers first victory came when they defeated Warren County Training School 41-0, thus leading the way for future tri umphs. The Tigers’ last home game was October 30th against Burlington. This was the Homecoming game. The games scheduled away are: November 6, Creedmoor; Novem ber 13, Raleigh. Lincoln High Alumni Several members of the class of ■’63 have decided to continue their education by going to college. Some of them are: Ola Mae Far rington, our former editor, who is at Hampton Institute; at A & T College—Inez Alston, Bettye Dooley, and Walter Jackson. Nel son Riggsbee and Ross Farring ton are at West Virginia State College, and Johnny Goins is at Virginia Union University. We wish to congratulate James Atwater who graduated from North Carolina College with high honors and is now at the Uni versity of Pennsylvania. We also wish to commend Isiah Foushee who graduated from Teachers College in Winston- Salem and is teaching in Red Springs, N. C. Ernestine Powell TO-B News Notes Grade 10-B was very successful in obtaining money for the Bus Drive. Although this sophomore class was not the winner of the contest, we do not consider our selves “losers.” We raised one hundred and one dollars. On the next drive our goal is to raise more. Ten-B is striving to be the most self-controlled group in the stu dent body. On the bulletin board in room 117 is a good, fair and poor conduct list. If you are pass ing Mrs. Hicks’ room, go in and look at our bulletin board. Dorothea Merritte 10-B Reporter 10-C And 11-A Make Progress 10-C and 11-A are making great progress in class activities. We have a definite program out lined for leisure time during ac tivities period. We elected the following for officers and repre sentatives: President, Floyd Ho gan; Vice President, Bertha Hea- den; Secretary, Delores Mason; Assistant Secretary, Drucilla Clark; Treasurer, Mrs. Frazier. Phone 9-443 Phone 9-2481 4-H Club Meets The monthly 4-H Club meeting was held October 8, 1953. Mrs. Davis was in charge of the sev enth and eighth grade girls. The eighth grade girls are interested in making skirts this year. The following officers were elected: President, Lillie Lee Per ry; Vice President, Janie Ann Harris; Secretary, Jessie Ruth Farrow; Assistant Secretary, Ma- lissa Edwards; and Treasurer, Rosa Sanders. Malissa Edwards Assistant Secretary Junior Girls' Council Meets The 7th and 8th grade girls held their first meeting October 22, 1953 in Mrs. R. P. Bell’s room. The discussions in the Junior Girls’ Council were centered around the cleanliness of the bathrooms, and cleanliness and respect among the girls. Mrs. Barnes told the group to feel free to discuss any problem with the counselors. The counselors are Mrs. M. D. Fulford, Mrs. L. C. Hicks and Mrs. C. H. Barnes.
